For genderqueer parents, navigating parental and gender identities during pregnancy can be challenging. For example, some genderqueer parents feel like they must choose between getting support for their pregnancy or getting support for affirming their gender identity.

Navigating the parental and newborn care system as a genderqueer parent can also be overwhelming, impacting overall emotional well-being. If this sounds familiar, know that you’re not alone!

"How are you feeling today?"
Stepped Care is a system of delivering and monitoring mental health treatment so that the most effective, yet least resource intensive treatment, is delivered first, only "stepping up" to intensive specialist services as required and depending on the level of patient distress or need. Effective screening is the entry point to care. At Inati, we have validated a short, accurate and easy to use mental health screening tool for pregnant and postnatal women that has been tested for common mental health disorders: depression and anxiety.

Not only does socio-economic status, race/ethnicity and a lack of social support infkuence a woman's risk of experiencing perinatal mental health issues, it also influences the likelihood that she will seek and receive adequate treatment. Our goal is to bridge the gap between women(mothers in particular) and high-quality perinatal health services by focusing on introducing unique opportunities at local health care facilities for women who seek care. This is done through collaborative measures between the organization and a range of service providers. The project focuses on ensuring that service providers are equipped with essential knowledge and skills to engage with vulnerable women, identify those at risk and refer those needing advanced care.
Welcome, mom. We are here and we care 🌻
