TRE Port Elizabeth/Gq TRE®️-Tension, Stress and Trauma Releasing Exercises
A body-based self regulation practice supporting nervous system regulation and stress release.

Individual and group sessions available. Facilitated by Janet Ayerst, Certified TRE Provider

Myth: You should feel better immediately after trauma release work.

Fact: Your nervous system may take time to integrate what was released.

Sometimes symptoms temporarily increase before they settle.

This doesn’t mean it’s not working — it means your system is reorganising.

Healing is a process, not a quick fix.

🌿 “Why Didn’t I Feel Anything in My First TRE Session?” 🌿

One of the most common questions people ask after their first TRE® session is:

“Nothing really happened… did I do it wrong?”

The answer is no. Your body is simply doing what it needs to do.

TRE works with the nervous system, and every nervous system responds in its own time and way.

✨ Sometimes the body needs to feel safe first.
If your system has been holding stress or trauma for a long time, it may take a few sessions before it allows deeper release. The body is wise and only releases what it feels ready to process.

🌱 Sometimes the nervous system is still learning the tremor response.
For many people, the tremoring mechanism has been suppressed for years. The first sessions may simply be the body remembering how to access this natural response.

🌊 Sometimes the changes are subtle.
Instead of big tremors, you may notice small shifts such as:
• feeling more relaxed later that day
• sleeping better
• breathing more deeply
• feeling calmer than usual

These are all signs that the nervous system is beginning to regulate.

🌿 TRE is not about forcing a release.
It’s about allowing the body to lead the process safely and gently.

Over time, as trust builds in the body, the tremors often become more natural and more responsive.

Your body knows exactly what it’s doing.

🌿 What Does It Feel Like To Be Stuck In Freeze? 🌿

Many people think trauma always looks like panic or anxiety.

But often… it looks like freeze.

Freeze can feel like:

• Feeling exhausted but unable to truly rest
• Procrastinating even when you care
• Numbness or emotional flatness
• Wanting connection but pulling away
• Brain fog
• A heavy body
• “I know what I should do… I just can’t.”

Freeze isn’t laziness.
It isn’t weakness.
It’s a very intelligent survival response.

When the nervous system feels overwhelmed and fight or flight isn’t possible, the body protects you by shutting things down.

The problem is…
Many of us never got the chance to come back out of it.

🌿 How TRE Helps

Trauma Release Exercises (TRE) gently activate the body’s natural tremor mechanism — a built-in way mammals discharge stress and survival energy.

In a safe, supported environment, the body can:

• Release stored tension
• Complete old survival responses
• Slowly feel safe again
• Move from freeze toward regulation

TRE isn’t about forcing anything.
It’s about allowing the body to do what it was designed to do.

And it happens at your pace.

If any of this feels familiar, you’re not broken.
Your nervous system has simply been protecting you.

And it can learn safety again. 🌿

🌿 If You’ve Tried Everything…

If you’ve tried everything…
and nothing quite seems to work…

Please know this —
there is nothing wrong with you.

Sometimes it’s not about trying harder.
Sometimes it’s about supporting the body in a different way.

If you’ve:
• Talked it through
• Pushed yourself to cope
• Told yourself to “just relax”

And you still feel:
• Tired but wired
• Tight in your chest or shoulders
• On edge for no clear reason
• Or simply stuck

Your nervous system might just need gentle support.

TRE is a body-based practice that allows stress to release naturally —
slowly, safely, at your pace.

No forcing.
No overwhelm.
Just small shifts that build over time.

If this feels like something your body has been asking for,
I’d love to support you.

🌿 What to Expect When You Come for a TRE Session 🌿

If you’ve been curious about TRE but unsure what actually happens in a session, here’s a gentle guide to what you can expect:

🍃 1. A Check-In
We begin with a conversation.
How are you arriving today?
What has your nervous system been holding?
This helps us move at your pace and create safety first.

🍃 2. The Exercises
You’ll be guided through a series of simple, gentle exercises designed to safely fatigue specific muscle groups. These exercises help prepare the body to access its natural tremor mechanism.

🍃 3. The Tremor Session
Once the tremors begin, your body does the work.
You are always in control.
The tremoring is a natural, biological release process — your nervous system’s way of discharging stored stress and tension.

🍃 4. The Integration Window
This is such an important part.
After the tremors, we allow time for stillness.

This “integration window” gives your body and brain space to register the new message:
🍃 The threat is over.
🍃 It’s safe now.

This is where the shifts begin to settle.

🍃 5. A Closing Check-In
We gently check in again before you leave.
How do you feel?
What are you noticing?
What support might you need after today’s session?

🍃 6. A Follow-Up Check-In the Next Morning
Your nervous system continues integrating after the session.
I will check in with you the following morning to make sure you’re feeling okay and supported.

TRE is not about pushing.
It’s about allowing.
It’s about creating safety in the body so that release can happen naturally.

YOUR FASCIA HOLDS YOUR STORY.

Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps around every muscle, organ and nerve in your body.
When it’s supple and fluid, movement feels easier. Breathing feels deeper. You feel more like yourself.

But stress, trauma and chronic tension don’t just live in the mind — they live in the body.

Over time, protective holding patterns can create stiffness, restricted movement, fatigue and that constant “on edge” feeling.

This is where TRE® comes in.

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®) gently activate the body’s natural tremor mechanism — a built-in way your nervous system releases deep muscular tension.

As the body softens:
• Fascial restriction may begin to ease
• Circulation improves
• Held tension patterns can unwind
• The nervous system can shift toward safety
• Movement feels more fluid and natural

We don’t force release.
We work at the pace of your nervous system.
Your body leads.

If you’re feeling:
– Burnt out
– Stiff or tight
– Carrying stress in your body
– Wired but exhausted
– Stuck in tension patterns

TRE may help you reconnect, soften and restore balance from the inside out.

🌿 Do I need to talk?”

This is one of the first questions people ask me.

And the answer is…
No, you don’t have to.

TRE is not traditional talk therapy.
You don’t need to tell your whole story.
You don’t need to explain what happened.

Your body already knows.

Stress, burnout, anxiety, overwhelm, grief, trauma — they don’t only live in the mind. They live in the nervous system. And sometimes the body needs to release what words cannot.

TRE works gently with the body’s natural tremor mechanism to help discharge stored tension and support regulation of the nervous system.

And here’s something very important:

🌿 We only work at the pace of your nervous system.

Your body decides what it is ready to release — not me, not a timeline, not pressure.

Sometimes that means gentle tremoring.
Sometimes it means slowing down.
Sometimes it means we focus first on building safety and regulation before allowing deeper release.

There is no forcing.
There is no pushing.
There is only working with what your nervous system is ready for.

You are always in control.
You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
We move at the pace your body can safely integrate.

This is a safe, supportive space in Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha where your body can begin to unwind — in its own time.

🌿 One-on-one sessions available
🌿 Small group sessions available

If you’ve been feeling:
• Burnt out
• Wired but exhausted
• Carrying tension in your body
• Emotionally overwhelmed
• Stuck in stress mode

You don’t have to explain everything to begin healing.

Sometimes your body just needs permission.

🌿 TRE & The Vagus Nerve 🌿

The vagus nerve is one of the most important nerves in the body.

It connects your brain to your heart, lungs, gut and many of your internal organs. It plays a key role in helping you shift out of stress and into calm.

When your vagus nerve is functioning well, you feel:
🌿 Safe
🌿 Regulated
🌿 Connected
🌿 Able to rest and digest

But when stress or trauma gets stored in the body, the nervous system can stay stuck in survival mode — fight, flight or freeze.

Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®) work directly with the body to gently discharge deep tension patterns. As the body tremors naturally, the nervous system begins to settle, and the vagus nerve can return to its job of restoring balance.

We don’t force calm.
We create safety — and calm follows.

Your body already knows how to regulate. Sometimes it just needs the right support.

🌿 What Happens When the Body Feels Safe?

When the body finally feels safe, it doesn’t need to stay on high alert anymore.

With TRE® (Trauma Release Exercises), we don’t force healing. We simply give the nervous system the conditions it needs to do what it already knows how to do.

When safety returns to the body, people often notice:
🌿 The breath deepens naturally
🌿 Muscles soften without effort
🌿 The mind becomes quieter
🌿 Digestion improves
🌿 Sleep feels more restful
🌿 The constant “on edge” feeling eases
🌿 Emotions feel more manageable

The tremors in TRE are not something you do — they are something that happens when the body realises it’s safe enough to let go.

Healing doesn’t come from pushing harder.
It comes from allowing the body to complete what it couldn’t before.

Safety is the foundation.
Everything else flows from there.

🌿 Gentle.
🌿 Body-led.
🌿 At your nervous system’s pace.

Survival Mode 🌿

Stress. Trauma. Illness. Chronic pain. Grief. Hormonal shifts.
Life happens — and the body remembers.

Many people are living in fight, flight or freeze without even realising it.
It can look like:
• Constant tension
• Feeling overwhelmed or shut down
• Trouble sleeping
• Chronic pain or fatigue
• Emotional reactivity or numbness

This isn’t weakness — it’s a nervous system doing its best to keep you safe.

TRE® gently supports the nervous system to come out of survival mode and into regulation, where rest, repair and healing become possible.

You don’t have to “push through.”
Your body knows the way — it just needs safety and support.

✨ Slow. Gentle. Body-led.

Who is TRE for? 🌿

TRE® (Trauma Release Exercises) is for anyone with a nervous system — which means most of us.

TRE may be supportive if you:
• Feel stressed, overwhelmed, or constantly “on edge”
• Carry tension, tightness, or chronic pain in your body
• Have experienced trauma (big or small)
• Struggle to fully relax, even when life is “fine”
• Feel emotionally stuck, shut down, or easily triggered
• Are navigating life transitions like menopause, illness, grief, or change
• Want a body-based approach rather than talking everything through

TRE is gentle, natural, and works with the body’s own ability to release stored tension — no forcing, your body does the work

You don’t need to be broken to benefit from TRE.
You just need a body that’s been living life 💚
