With the last few weeks of school and Christmas approaching, your child will likely bring home many pieces of artwork and christmas decorations he/she made in class, therapy or when visiting grandma.
As a therapist, I simply cannot emphasize the importance of framing/hanging/displaying these artworks at home - your child worked very hard to create that little glittery piece of paper and left the therapy room with starry eyes, excited to show mommy and daddy.
Your praise and excitement at seeing it, means more to their little hearts, than you will ever know!
"Displaying a student’s artwork communicates to a child that they are seen, valued, and honored.
Children often express their emotions, thoughts and ideas through their artwork using symbols and colours. Seeing the work they have produced displayed, will affirm this for them and give them a strong sense of self at the same time.
When you hang your child's artwork, explain that you’re showcasing this piece because it’s an example of their hard work and persistence. When it comes to learning something new, the many attempts that precede mastery are even more important than the final product. Displaying your child’s art can communicate that you value their engagement and experimentation."
