HEPATITIS
• Hepatitis is a condition that refers to inflammation of the liver. There are several different types of hepatitis, including hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. These types are all caused by different viruses, which can be transmitted through contaminated food or water, s*xual contact, or blood transfusions. Some types of hepatitis can also be caused by autoimmune disease or alcohol abuse. Symptoms of hepatitis can include fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). Some types of hepatitis can lead to long-term complications.
• As I mentioned, symptoms of hepatitis can vary depending on the type and severity of the infection. Common symptoms include:
- Fever.
- Fatigue.
- Loss of appetite.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Abdominal pain.
- Dark urine.
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes).
- Joint pain.
- Itching.
- Clay-colored stool.
• There are certain groups of people who are at higher risk for hepatitis. These include:
- People who inject drugs.
- Men who have s*x with men.
- People who have unprotected s*x.
- People who have had blood transfusions.
- People who have been exposed to contaminated food or water.
- People who have been exposed to blood products, such as through dialysis or blood transfusions.
- People who have a weakened immune system, such as those with HIV or AIDS.
- People who live or travel in areas with high rates of hepatitis.
