Most inherited breast cancer cases are linked to changes in two genes - BRCA1 and BRCA2. 🧬

A simple genetic test can help you understand if you carry one of these mutations, and if you do, your doctor can guide you through next steps based on your personal risk.

Learning you’re at higher risk can feel overwhelming, but it also means you have the power to make informed choices for your health.🩷

Cervical cancer has more than one cause - but in most cases, it’s linked to persistent infection with high-risk types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Other factors could also increase the risk of contracting HPV, including smoking, becoming sexually active at a young age, and having multiple sexual partners.

Awareness and prevention are powerful tools - HPV vaccination, regular Pap smears, and lifestyle choices all play a role in reducing risk.

The HPV vaccine is one of the strongest tools we have to reduce the risk of cervical cancer and other HPV-related conditions.

It’s most effective when given early, ideally to adolescents before exposure to the virus - but young adults up to age 26 (and in some cases, up to 45) can still benefit.

Have you ever heard of the HPV vaccine before?💭

It’s incredibly normal to feel anxious about this screening (many women do). But knowing what to expect can help make the process less intimidating.

Pap smears are a simple test with a powerful purpose - catching early signs of cervical cancer before they become serious. Staying proactive is one of the strongest ways to protect your health.

If you’re feeling nervous, remember that it’s okay to express your discomfort to your gynaecologist. They’re there to help you feel at ease during the process.💙

FAS doesn’t only affect a baby at birth - it can have lifelong effects on learning, behaviour, and development.

That’s why awareness is so important.

International Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Day is about education, compassion, and community support.

By speaking openly and sharing knowledge, we can help prevent FAS and protect future generations.🤎

Did you know that girls as young as 13–15 are encouraged to have their first gynaecology appointment?

Early visits aren’t about complicated exams - they’re about building trust, learning about their bodies, and having a safe space to ask questions. Topics often include periods, contraception, or any health concerns they (or their guardians) may have.

If you’re looking for a compassionate and caring gynaecologist in Richards Bay, Dr. Payal is here to support you and your family.💙
