After a car accident 1987 I was in constant pain. No medication could relieve the pain that I suffered. I heard about hypnotherapy as an alternative to medication. Doing research on the subject, I found that it even assisted people with cancer. Wow! That is amazing!
I entered a training program at Johannesburg with a lecturer from the South African Association of Hypnotists and completed the basic training, but that was not enough! I wanted more. I wanted to be able to help other people in more ways and fields than just pain relief. My training covered the everyday problems, specific needs, regression therapy and extensive stress relief therapy.
On completion of my courses I felt properly equipped to really make a difference in the lives of my clients. I have successfully been working with bad habits, low self-esteem, public speaking, stammering, weight problems, kids with learning problems, students at varsity with study problems, insomnia and too many more to mention. Then of course … today’s biggest killer! STRESS!!!!
Hypnosis is a truly natural state of mind and body and is therefore perfectly safe.
Before a session you will have to complete a questionnaire. It is of the utmost importance that you complete this questionnaire absolutely honestly. I will have to receive the completed questionnaire at least 24 hours before the consultation in order for me to prepare properly. The cornerstone of this treatment is trust between the client and the therapist.
What to expect during a hypnosis session:
We will have conversation discussing your expectations and goals that you want to achieve. Problem areas can include a variety of things
· Low self-esteem (teenagers have a huge problem with this)
· Stress (in the work and personal environment)
· Stop smoking
· Cutting down on smoking
· Losing weight
· Concentration
· Studying
· Insomnia
· Bad habits like nail biting
· Behavioral problems
· Thought patterns to be altered or changed totally
· Public speaking
· Sport performance enhancement
· Stammering
· Pain control (treating the symptom not the cause)
· Coping with negative memories
· Recalling memories
· Grieve
· Bed wetting
· The list can go on and on. There are very few things that can’t be treated and improved through Hypnotherapy!
First is the induction stage where I will use different induction methods and relaxation techniques that will allow you to enter a ‘light trance’ of relaxation. Because every person is unique hypnotherapy is highly individual since the response of people differs and I as the therapist have to establish which method is working on my client.
Secondly the state of relaxation will be deepened. Again, no two sessions are the same. The induction techniques will be re-enforced by using visualization techniques and sometime speech as well. During this stage the conscious mind is occupied with concentrating on the therapy (almost like when you are driving home on a familiar rout and you get home but can’t recall everything on the way home because your conscious mind has “ switched off” and the sub-conscious mind are in control and open to suggestions). Once I am certain that you reached the state of deep relaxation I will make the suggestions
As a skilled hypnotist I will make suggestions to affect the change in the unique individual I am working with in a manner they will respond to. It is important therefore, that the suggestions have to be clear and in line with your specific goals and problems
These post-hypnotic suggestion made during the hypnotic process can take root immediately and have an immediate effect on your behavior. Sometimes, it might take a few sessions and have to be repeated regularly to allow these suggestions to take hold. Once these suggestions are accepted by the subconscious mind, you will have real behavioral changes in line with your expectations.
Finely I will count you back to a state of natural awakening and clarity. This process is much quicker than the relaxation process.
A few things about hypnotherapy that is often misunderstood:
1. Can’t force the client to things against their will and morals. This is very important since hypnosis can only be achieved and be successful if the clients want to be hypnotized and wants to be helped;
The client is totally aware of the surroundings and what is happening all the time and can, at any time, decide to not continue with the session.
2. Leave you stuck in hypnosis you are not unconscious or semi-conscious.
3. You don’t go to sleep.
4. Nobody can take control of you; you are not in anybody’s power.
5. Permanently remove memories or thoughts.
6. Let you reveal your “dark secrets” against your will.
7. Give supernatural powers.
8. Make you do not say or do stupid things unless you want to.
9. Replace medical care.
Hypnosis is a truly natural state of mind and body and is therefore perfectly safe. It can be utilized from the age of 10 since a person have to be able to concentrate for longer than 15 minutes at the least. Treating children with concentration problems are very unique and intensive.
