Core Callanetics "Does Callanetics Work?"

More than thirty years ago, Callan Pinckney created an exercise program that was quite unique for the time.

She duly named it Callanetics. Unlike Pilates and other low-impact exercises, Callanetics incorporates precision-like movements that focus on specific groups of muscles. These movements are small yet powerful, and they serve to shape and tone as well as strengthen and promote flexibility. In essence, the working of the muscles in a precise fashion increases the metabolism and helps to burn calories more effectively than most other exercise programs. In fact, because Callanetics exercises reshape the body, the ability to lose cms is realized. No matter what age you are, you can benefit from these non-impact exercises. Callanetics has been designed to burn fat using a much slower range of exercises that require more muscles to become engaged in the motion process. Callanetics offers better co-ordination, awareness of your body, and balance. What is so unique about this program is that it incorporates a meditative component that allows the body to relax, thus preparing the body to become more receptive to the exercises at hand.

STRETCH THOSE INNER THIGHS

1. Lie down on your back and place your legs up on the wall.
2. Gradually separate your legs into a v-shape. Gravity will help you achieve the split, don't force it.
3. Progress the spilt by getting your pelvis closer to the wall and opening your legs wider. The aim is to get your sitting bones against the wall and your feet to the floor.
4. Come out of this stretch # slowly.

SORE MUSCLES
Muscle soreness is a sign of change as your body responds to the demands you are placing on it. In order to reshape our bodies hard work is required. If you feel stiff the day after class the best thing to do is to move. A walk, swim or coming back to class helps the adaptation phase and recovery.

For the coffee lovers out there

1. Caffeine Can Kill You, but you'd have to drink 80 to 100 cups in a hurry, health experts say.

2. Coffee Can Be Good For You
A study shows that Americans get most of their antioxidants from their daily fix of java. One to two cups a day appear to be beneficial. Or, if you don't like coffee, try black tea, the second most consumed antioxidant source. Bananas, dry beans, and corn wrap up the top five.

3. Caffeine Might Boost S*x Drive
It worked on rats anyway. But researchers say in humans, coffee might enhance the sexual experience only among people who are not habitual users.

4. Caffeine Might Cut Pain
Moderate doses of caffeine — the equivalent of two cups of coffee— can cut post-gym muscle pain, a small study found. But the research was done on people who were not regular coffee drinkers.

5. Caffeine Can Indeed Keep You Up at Night
Health experts advise avoiding it for 6 hours before bedtime.

6. Decaf Coffee Has Caffeine!
If you drink five to 10 cups of decaffeinated coffee, you could get as much caffeine as from one or two cups of caffeinated coffee, a study found.

7. Decaffeination Uses Chemicals
Beans are steamed, so that dissolved caffeine rises to the surface, where it is washed off using an organic solvent called methylene chloride.

8. Caffeine Is Not The Bitter Culprit
Caffeine is not the main bitter compound in coffee. Rather, the pungent perpetrators are antioxidants.

9. Great Coffee Depends on Roasting and Brewing
When it comes to great flavor, coffee chemistry boils down to roasting and brewing. During roasting, oil locked inside the beans begins to emerge at around 400 degrees. The more oil, the stronger the flavor. Caffeine content goes up as the water spends more time in contact with the grounds, so regular coffee often has more of it than espresso or cappuccino. Darker roasts also yield more caffeine.

"When you eat healthy food you become more discerning. Suddenly you can smell the bad oil and preservatives in processed meals and they don’t seem appealing anymore. When you treat your body to fresh wholesome and natural food you will crave this option rather than a fast food choice. Is the food in front of you pleasing and will it leave you satisfied, light and energetic? ." - from Wellness Magazine article 'Fire Belly' (page 16)
