The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) announces the slogan for :
Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works

will focus on tracking progress and evaluating breastfeeding impact on nutrition, food security and poverty reduction with highlights of successful implementation and lessons learnt. Target audiences including actors along the Warm Chain of Support for Breastfeeding; civil society organisations, governments, policymakers, health systems, workplaces, communities and parents will be engaged to strengthen proven solutions to improve breastfeeding protection, promotion and support. The theme is aligned with thematic area 1 of the WBW-SDG 2030 campaign.

Objectives of WBW2026:
🔹 Inform people about the importance of tracking progress in breastfeeding.
🔹 Anchor breastfeeding implementation through policies and guidelines across the Warm Chain.
🔹 Engage with individuals and organisations to enhance collaboration and support for breastfeeding.
🔹 Galvanise actions on improving breastfeeding protection, promotion and support using lessons learnt.

We invite everyone—governments, health systems, workplaces, civil society organisations, communities, and individuals—to join us in understanding what is working in countries that are reporting good breastfeeding progress. Tracking and evaluating progress in each country will let us learn what are the important elements to breastfeeding support.

⏰ Battling the Holiday Time Warp? Family visits and late nights can totally disrupt your baby's feeding schedule. Our top tip: Schedule a "Quiet Feed/Pump" time. Retreat to a quiet room before leaving for a party, or set a phone alarm for your usual feeding intervals. This protects your supply and your sanity! Save this post for your Christmas Day game plan!

The holiday season is often pictured as a time of joy, family gatherings, and celebration. But for parents of premature babies — especially mothers recovering physically and emotionally — this time of year can bring stress, exhaustion, and isolation.

While others are wrapping gifts and preparing for festivities, many mothers are spending long hours in NICUs, managing medical appointments, or navigating the uncertainty of their baby’s health.

At the South African Lactation Consultants (SACLC), we understand how deeply the holiday season can amplify the challenges of prematurity. Let’s unpack why this happens, and how mothers can find gentler ways to cope, rest, and reconnect.
