Official Statement from Leroi Investment Group Management on Gender-Based Violence in South Africa
Pretoria, South Africa – November 10, 2025
______________________________
At Leroi Investment Group, we are deeply committed to fostering a society built on respect, equality, and safety for all. As a proudly South African company rooted in communities like Soshanguve and beyond, we cannot remain silent in the face of the ongoing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) that continues to devastate lives, families, and our nation. Every day, we witness the profound impact of this epidemic—women, children, and vulnerable individuals enduring unimaginable trauma, with statistics revealing that a woman is murdered every six hours in our country. This is not just a statistic; it is a call to urgent, collective action.
November marks Purple Awareness Month, a vital reminder of the need for peace, justice, and healing for survivors of GBV. The color purple symbolizes the courage of those who have survived and the resolve of those who stand with them. Leroi Investment Group unequivocally stands in solidarity with this movement. We pledge to wear purple, amplify survivor voices, and integrate GBV awareness into our workplace culture through training, support resources, and partnerships with local organizations dedicated to prevention and recovery.
In particular, we fully endorse the National Shutdown called by Women for Change on Friday, November 21, 2025. This powerful act of withdrawal—urging women and the LGBTQIA+ community to pause work, shopping, and daily routines—aims to silence the nation and demand that GBV and femicide be declared a national state of disaster. Ahead of the G20 Summit, it is a stark message to our leaders: the time for rhetoric is over; we need immediate, enforceable policies, increased funding for shelters and counseling, stricter enforcement of laws, and systemic change to protect the most vulnerable among us.
As Managing Director, I, Sfiso Mthembu, alongside our entire leadership team, commit Leroi Investment Group to this cause. Our subsidiaries, including Leroi Funeral Services and Leroi Motors, will participate in the shutdown, closing operations for the day to honor the call and reflect on our role in building safer communities. We encourage our employees, partners, clients, and fellow South Africans to join us—by staying home, sharing stories of resilience, and pressuring those in power for accountability.
GBV ends when we all say "enough." Let us turn awareness into action, solidarity into strength. Together, we can create a South Africa where every person lives free from fear.
