You've overcome hard times before, you can do it again! No matter how bad it feels now, it won't feel like this forever. Don't let your circumstances define you or become your identity. Don't lean into fear, that will rob your peace. IT IS OKAY NOT TO FEEL OKAY but decide to surround yourself with positive people. Have a little bit of faith. Hold onto hope. Trust yourself. You can handle it.

I CAN DO HARD THINGS but sometimes I feel exhausted, lack motivation, experience negative energy, slip up at work and don't take care of myself!

Burnout is a real thing! You don't have to be a CEO to experience burnout dear friend!

Boundaries are critical, figuring out when enough is enough. Knowing when it's me, or when it's them. Getting organized, resting, unplugging, making time for my other passions... These are things that I'm learning and implementing.

I'm purely making this post for myself because these words sound very glamorous right now!

I need a daily reminder that I can do it. I've felt overwhelmed a lot lately and I've had to TRY AND TRY AGAIN to get my feelings under control when I'm feeling overwhelmed.

I say things that I don't mean when I get overwhelmed, I don't reply to my messages, I scroll too much, I complain & compare but that's the beauty of this friends; when we actively TRY to implement healthy steps & principles eventually things will change.

I'm grateful that I get to feel my emotions (good & bad). I'm grateful I get to learn how to do new things, I'm grateful for a community that supports me when I'm in the low valleys and on the high mountain tops. I'm grateful that I'm safe and I'm grateful that I can let go of things that are holding me back...

I'm also grateful that I have food in the fridge, resources around me, that I get to live in CPT & this space where I can share my counselling invitation with you...

I was once asked this question: "when you walk into a flooded room what would you go do first? Would you start sweeping the water out of the room or run to turn off the tap?"

Being a South African reg counsellor I've come to terms that there is a massive need for affordable mental health services. (not only in SA) I WANT TO GO CLOSE THAT TAP and bridge that gap.

I want individuals who are struggling mentally & emotionally to hold their complexity, let go of their shame/guilt, forgive, journey through their trauma and partner with me to take ownership of their mental health and know that no matter their condition they matter. They add value. They can implement long-term healthy coping mechanisms and be awesome, successful individuals in their societies. They can speak openly about what they feel, don't use it as an excuse and encourage others along the way.

(And if needs be go on meds, spend a few days in the hospital but let's not just sweep water out of the room, let's close taps!)

We live in a broken world, we all struggling some way or another and I want to encourage you today; be kind & if you can help those around you, why not!

HELLO 👋🏼 Wow, it's been 10 months since I've posted anything on Oh Courage! A simple, joyful, resourceful space where I feel brave to speak up about the mental stuff that matters. A space where you can feel brave to reach out and know you are not alone, establish trust & connection and step into MENTAL FREEDOM.

What a season it's been!! I've discovered a whole lot of what it means to be a counsellor, a colleague, a wife, a friend, a daughter, a sister, a listener, a supporter, an encourager & a girl facing personal challenges. Yet, I'm here. I'm showing up. I'm listening, caring and partnering not because I have it all together but because life's way too short to be going through things alone.

During the last 10 months, I've been blessed to have been able to counsel men & women online and in person. My role is to create a space for YOU to be heard, to heal and to work through your past traumas, future fears and present situations.

Im excited about this space. I'm excited to reconnect with you. I'm excited to be here.

I realized something the other day and now I'm making a post about this to find out what you think:

"My THINKING often leads to my FEELINGS and my feelings leads to my ACTIONS. Therefore I need to pay more attention to what I think!

Critical Thinking ensures that I think clearly and rationally (sometimes I struggle with that). We often get overwhelmed with information everywhere. We think non-stop. We think, we feel, we do. We think, we do, we feel. Either way this is a cycle and most of the time we not even in control.

We need to understand the importance of Critical Thinking so that we activate it when we need it.

THEN we need to understand the balance of silencing our thoughts. Giving our thoughts a break (and no, sleeping doesn't count). - I'll post of this some other time.

Have you activated your Critical Thinking? Are you in control of your thoughts or are your thoughts in control of you?"

MENTAL FREEDOM, for me, looks like this:

Running and not looking back.

Not being imprisoned by your mind. Not feeling trapped or stuck. Free from things that use to consume your mind the most and caused stress, anxiety, worry and mostly upset and disruption in your everyday life. See, what happens in your mind overflows into every aspect of your life.

Personally for me, this use to be people pleasing, self-doubt, fear of man and performance. Not being able to say no, not knowing my identity, my worth or ultimately who I am and where I want to go. Who I was, was based on others acceptance, their opinions and their actions towards me.

2021 is year 7 for me, journeying with Mental Freedom, embracing the battle of not falling into old habits. The secret to mental freedom is taking it ONE DAY AT A TIME. Being honest with yourself, being content, courageous and confident. Most importantly not allowing labels to define you.
