When asked what pharma should do more of and less of, doctors were clear. Good engagement is personalised, relevant and evidence based. Poor engagement is brand-heavy detail aids and scripted sales pitches that feel like box-ticking rather than genuine dialogue.

When a Medical Representative greets a Pharmacist, Nurse, Doctor or other client, the question of whether to shake hands often arises. Is this still a common practice? Should you offer your hand, or is it better to skip it altogether?

* When is it appropriate?

- Formal settings: Business meetings, introductions, or professional networking events.

- Cultural norms: In some cultures, shaking hands is a standard way to show respect. In other cultures it is not appreciated.

Why could it be a good idea?

* First impressions: A firm handshake exudes confidence and warmth.
- Connection: It’s a timeless gesture of respect and professionalism.

* When might it be better to avoid?

- Health concerns: During cold and flu season or in post-pandemic settings, people may prefer alternatives.
