Yesterday, Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi flagged off the march past for the commemoration of World Sight Day at Hybrid Roundabout along Great East Road.

The University Teaching Hospitals - Eye Hospital joined the rest of the world in commemorating world sight day under the global theme "Love Your Eyes".

This year's theme highlights the importance of good vision and the importance of prioritizing eye health and preventing vision loss in the workplace, emphasizing how vision impacts personal well-being, productivity, and safety for everyone, from office workers to factory employees.

During the same event, UTH Eye Hospital under the Ministry of Health with support from the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) was conducting the ground breaking for the construction of the new Eye Hospital.

This momentous event was graced by the Hon. Minister of Health Dr. Elijah Muchima on behalf of Mr. Hakainde Hichilema President of the Republic of Zambia in Chongwe.

Together, we are building a Zambia where no child is denied education, no adult loses productivity, and no elder is robbed of their golden years due to preventable eye conditions.

The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce the Official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Construction of the New University Teaching Hospitals – Eye Hospital, to be officiated by His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, on Thursday, 9th October 2025, at the National Heart Hospital in Lusaka.

This milestone marks a significant step towards strengthening the country’s health system and advancing specialized eye care services for the people of Zambia.

We are not just turning the soil; we are turning a new page in the story of Eye Health Care and the well-being of our nation.

Photo Focus: Chongwe District Outreach

Yesterday and today, our team conducted a successful outreach program at Chainda, Kasisi, Mpangwe, Katoba, and Palabana Rural Health Centers of Chongwe District.

We screened patients and identified those in need of cataract surgery, transporting them to Chongwe District for treatment by our dedicated surgical team.

A huge thank you to our team and partners for making this possible.
