A Zambian student walked into a classroom in Florida, and earned an invitation to a national seminar in Maryland that most scholars never receive.

Davie Mdumuka, a member of Zambia's 2025 Fulbright cohort, is pursuing a Master of Science in Data Analytics at the University of Central Florida. His academic performance has been exceptional. His commitment to his field has been consistent. And this year, that commitment was recognized with an invitation to the 2026 Annapolis Fulbright Seminar in Marylandโ€”one of the most prestigious gatherings in the Fulbright Program, bringing together international scholars from across the United States for deep exchange and dialogue.

The Fulbright Program does not just fund a degree. It places Zambian scholars inside American universities, American communities, and American conversations, and sends them home with the networks, credentials, and perspective to lead. For Davie, that means returning to Zambia with a postgraduate qualification in one of the fastest-growing fields in the world, and the relationships built across two years at the center of American academic life.

This year carries added significance. On July 4, 2026, the United States marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The ideals in that documentโ€”opportunity, the pursuit of knowledge, and the belief that education can change a lifeโ€”are exactly what Davie's story represents.

When Davie comes home, Zambia gains.

I come from a humble family background where financial resources have always been limited.

Growing up, my parents worked hard to provide for our basic needs but supporting higher education has always been a challenge due to our social economic situation.

After completing my Grade 12, I spent a significant amount of time searching for scholarship opportunities. It has not been an easy journey.

They were some moments of uncertainty and discouragements, but I never gave up, I kept applying.

I heard about this scholarship through the Justina Mutale Foundation's outreach and communication channels and I am glad that I applied and grateful that I got accepted.

My name is Ruth Mwale, and I am truly honoured and grateful to have received a scholarship under the Justina Mutale Foundation Scholarship Programme.

I will be pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at Hygeia Global University College.

I completed my Grade 12 education in 2023. Since then, I have been actively trying to secure a student loan from government institutions, but unfortunately, I was not successful.

While searching for scholarship opportunities within the country, I came across the Justina Mutale Foundation on Facebook.

After learning more about the programme, I felt encouraged to apply. To my great surprise and joy, I was accepted within a short period of time.

I come from a family of five, and I am the second-born child. This opportunity means a great deal to me, as it brings me closer to achieving my academic and career goals.

I am a new scholarship student at Hygeia Global University College, studying Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
I would like to thank the Justina Mutale Foundation and Hygeia Global University for this scholarship opportunity.

I was born in 2007 in Lusaka. I completed my secondary education in 2025. I am the first born in the family of five, with one sister and three younger brothers. My father works as a builder at a construction company and my mother does not work.

Coming from a low-income background, I have been looking for a scholarship ever since I completed my high school in 2025. It really has been a challenge academically. I had lost hope of pursing my career due to my family's socio-economic background.

I heard about the Justina Mutale Foundation from my Aunt, who lives in Lusaka and I am truly thankful for this scholarship. I am committed to make a positive impact in the lives of others, just as you have generously done for me.

This Award was bestowed unto our team during the just concluded United Nations 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is the worldโ€™s premiere and largest Forum on gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.

I come from a family of eight. My mother is currently unemployed and my father runs a small family business that is barely able to sustain us.

Growing up, we often struggled to have proper meals in a day due to our financial situation. During my high school years, I used to walk long distances to and from school because we could not afford daily transport.

Despite these challenges, I remained committed to my education and worked hard to complete Grade 12.

Since then, I have been actively searching and applying for scholarship opportunities so I could continue my studies and build a better future for myself and my family.

This scholarship means hope, opportunity, and a turning point in my life. It gives me the chance to access higher education, develop my skills, and work toward improving the lives of my family and community.
