During the 2022/2023 rainy season, floods in more than 41 districts in Zambia affected over 60,000 households by damaging their crops, killing some of their animals and left households grappling with food insecurity. These households were also previously affected by drought therefore, this caused severe hunger which had a ripple effect on school attendance for learners as most of them would miss class.

Sustainable investment in social protection programmes for children such as the school feeding programme helps keep girls and boys in school and this results in improved school performance.

Through the Humanitarian Response, many Non governmental organizations in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Zambia worked together to ensure that children in those affected areas had access to hot meals through the school feeding program.
As Dove's Nest Foundation, we recommend the Government's effort to this initiative and we shall continue working with the government as we support these school going kids.
