Dos and Don'ts for someone fitting/having seizures

Do:
✅️Ease the person to the floor.
✅️Turn the person gently onto one side(usually left side). This will help the person breathe.
✅️Clear the area around the person of anything hard or sharp. This can prevent injury.
✅️Put something soft and flat, like a folded jacket, under his or her head.
✅️Remove eyeglasses.
✅️ Loosen ties or anything around the neck that may make it hard to breathe.
✅️Time the seizure. Urgently seek medical attention if the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes.

Do not:
❌️hold the person down or try to stop his or her movements.
❌️put anything in the person’s mouth. This can injure teeth or the jaw. A person having a seizure cannot swallow his or her tongue, its a myth.
❌️try to give mouth-to-mouth breaths (like CPR). People usually start breathing again on their own after a seizure.
❌️offer the person water or food until he or she is fully alert.

End of today's lessons, good night ladies and gentlemen!

Though witnessing a kugwinha/fitting can be frightening, it's not true that a person will be in danger of swallowing their tongue. NEVER put anything in the mouth or forcefully open a clenched jaw when the person is fitting as this could harm the person.

On dismissing the class today, my recommendation is we talk to our daughters, teachers to our female students about sexual health, leaders of the society the same.

I don't think it makes them promiscuous but empowers them to take control of their sexual health leading to reduced unintended pregnancies and STI. This recommendation also comes on background of 86% of new HIV infections among adolescents aged 15-19 years being among girls and about 22% teenage pregnancy rate in Zimbabwe. What do you think?

No point in secretly getting STI treatment. Otherwise you get that infection again from the untreated partner (even if he or she doesn't have symptoms) and the cycle continues. Wasting your time and resources.
