In Radiology unit, we have a radiologist, a Radiographer, Mammographer, sonographers and the rest.
The differences between these medical professionals lie primarily in their training, roles.
Who is a Radiologist?
A Radiologist is a medical doctor who specialize in the use of medical imaging for diagnosis, investigation of clinical health conditions and interpret the images such as X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, etc.
Who is a Radiographer?
A Radiographer is a healthcare professional who is trained and certified to use radiological equipment (such as x-ray , CT scan, MRI, PET scan etc) to create medical images.
It's the duty of a Radiographer to get the medical images of a patient, while the Radiologist examine the results and give interpretations.
Who is a Sonographer?
A Sonographer is healthcare professional or a Radiographer who specialized in the use of ultrasound machine to examine a patient and obtain medical images of the patient in line with the medical investigation.
The images obtained by a sonographer are usually sent to a radiologist or other medical doctors for interpretation, and further medical interventions.
All sonographers are Radiographers but all radiographers are not sonographers
