"Grandma how do you deal with pain?"
"With your hands, dear. When you do it with your mind, the pain hardens even more."
“With your hands, grandma?"
"Yes, yes. Our hands are the antennas of our Soul. When you move them by sewing, cooking, painting, touching the earth or sinking them into the earth, they send signals of caring to the deepest part of you and your Soul calms down. This way she doesn't have to send pain anymore to show it.
"Are hands really that important?"
"Yes my girl. Think of babies: they get to know the world thanks to their touch.
When you look at the hands of older people, they tell more about their lives than any other part of the body.
Everything that is made by hand, so it is said, is made with the heart because it really is like this: hands and heart are connected.
Think of lovers: When their hands touch, they love each other in the most sublime way."
"My hands grandma... how long since I used them like that!"
"Move them my love, start creating with them and everything in you will move.
The pain will not pass away. But it will be the best masterpiece. And it won't hurt as much anymore, because you managed to embroider your Essence.”~

Tracy & I recently completed a workshop on Osteopathy for Performing Artists. A great overview about repetitive strain & common traumatic injuries experienced by instrumentalist, vocalists & dancers. Robbie will be opening up select Saturdays (dates TBD) in the new year in Sackville to offer osteopathic treatment on a pay-what-you-can basis for professional artists who don’t have extended health care coverage. Artists of all genres, if you’re having physical issues affecting your work, please reach out with your questions. (506) 869-1672 / [email protected]

This photo is of me & my friend, professional dancer & fellow osteopath Susan Cook performing at the 2006 Dance Nova Scotia Gala in the foyer of the Rebecca Cohn. We danced the entire space… open floor, staircases, window boxes, slid down a spiral banister on my belly. It was beautiful & pretty punk rock. Thanks for the invitation to work with you Susan!

Interoception: A New Mind-Body Paradigm

“These findings also suggest that interoception is not a one-way street.”

- Molly McDonough

“A very traditional definition of interoception is that it comes from the body and ends in the brain. But we now know that the brain can go back and regulate signals in organs. It’s a loop.”

Ear: Do you work with ears in your practice? If yes, how?

“The human ear is an amazing organ that has a complex structure and function.” Analysis by KÖRPERWELTEN

1️⃣ “The ear consists of three main parts: the outer ear (with the ear shell), the middle ear (with the eardrum skin and earbuds) and the inner ear (with the auditory nerve and corti organ).

2️⃣ The ear is responsible not only for hearing, but also for finding balance. Small hair cells in the inner ear send information about movement and position to the brain.

3️⃣ An interesting myth says that the ears continue to grow after death. However, this is not true. What happens is that the tissue around the ear dries out and shrinks, causing the ear to appear larger.

4️⃣ The eardrum, located in the middle ear, is extremely sensitive and can transform sound waves into mechanical vibrations, which are interpreted by the brain as sounds.”
