Some info on fascia and foam rolling....particularly regarding the IT Band. (Long story short, stop rolling the IT band itself; instead, tackle that TFL and Gluteus Maximus!)
The truth is, there are many techniques that simply don't have clear and solid scientific evidence that they work.
Yes, a lot of the evidence is anecdotal, but I agree that doesn't mean it isn't valuable.
Look at cupping; I have many clients who love it, some that felt it wasn't for them. There's no scientific proof/data of it's efficacy. And yet I know from using it on myself, that it has helped me, and it has helped some of my clients, as per their feedback.
What works for some, doesn't for others. Some benefit from lighter pressure more than from heavy; others need a certain higher level of intensity to get the benefit from massage.
Either way, manual manipulation is beneficial to muscle tissue health, and can affect surrounding tissue in all it's forms, including fascial tissue.
