This natural healing art is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands and ears, which correspond to every part, gland, and organ of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body. There are 7200 nerve endings in each of the feet which have
extensive interconnections through the spinal cord and brain with all areas of the body. Slight modifications would be required depending on age and health status. Treatment is done in a quiet, relaxing environment to promote relaxation and the release of tension which relieves pain. Some researchers believe that reflexology is actually well over 5,500 years old. The use of reflexology was found in a pictograph in the tomb of an Egyptian physician. Today reflexology is widely practiced in Germany, Denmark, England and is recognized as an important adjunct to standard medical treatment. In China, it is well researched and practiced extensively with great success. Treatments are approximately 50 - 90 minutes long.
