Yin Yoga is a practice to complement your regular "Yang" practice by focusing on strengthening the joints, connective tissue and fascia. Yang yoga practice strengthens our muscles to give us greater flexibility, but Yin yoga works to strengthen our joints, connective tissue and fascia by relaxing the muscles and sustaining the hold of poses. Instead of focusing on aesthetics and alignment in poses, Yin focuses on how the body feels by targeting a specific area, coming to your edge with the use of props, commiting to stillness, and holding the posture and letting gravity do its work!
Most poses in Yin yoga are performed either seated or lying down, but don't be fooled by this methodology! Holding poses for a sustained period of time nourishes our bodies in important ways physically, energetically, and meditatively. Physically, we work to strengthen our joints and connective tissue and to hydrate and detoxify our fascia; energetically, holding poses creates an energy flow that stimulates our nervous systems; meditatively, the yin approach encourages mindfulness by giving us a greater awareness of our inner world.
Our instructors Kate, Linda and Jodie are passionate about sharing the benefits of Yin Yoga practice with you! Join Kate on Wednesdays at 8pm, Linda on Thursdays at 1:00pm, or Jodie on Thursdays at 7:30pm to feel the Yin Yoga energy.
