β€œMy work is a blend of realism and imagination. When constructing collages, I select paper pieces by color and texture as though I were choosing paint from a palette. Sometimes I find just the paper I have in mind, but most often I improvise which lends itself to intuitive and unexpected effects.” --Sandy Cummings

Meet Sandy Cummings, whose art will be displayed at our Yoga Center of Columbia studio gallery through June! Sandy K Cummings’ collection of colorful and expressive collages features flowers from her summer garden and images inspired by her travels. From a distance the collages may convey as paintings, but upon a closer look, you will discover that the images are made of detailed, multi-layered paper.

Sandy was born in Washington, DC and studied Studio Art at the University of Maryland, continuing her education at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum School. She currently works out of her home studio in Columbia, Maryland and has exhibited widely in the Baltimore/Washington area.

Say hello to Sandy if you see her at the Yoga Center of Columbia: she has been faithfully practicing with this special community of yogis for nearly two decades! And stop by the studio in-person to see us and to view and/or purchase one of Sandy's colorful, inspiring works. 🌸🩷🎨

Who doesn’t want more strength? It helps us glide through life more gracefully. Improve your form and increase all kinds of strength in tabletop, plank, and chaturanga in Madeline's workshop this Sunday: Chaturanga Check-In!

In Sanskrit, chaturanga translates to β€˜four-limbed staff pose.’ β€˜Chat’ refers to the number β€˜four’ and β€˜anga’ means β€˜limb.’ If you’ve practiced Hatha or Vinyasa Yoga, chaturanga is part of the sun-salutation; it is the posture which is the transition down to the floor β€” often from plank pose β€” before cobra or upward facing dog.

In this workshop, tap into full-body awareness in foundational postures with the intention of strengthening your arms and legs, which serve as our connection with the earth. We will also illuminate our awareness in the feet and hands, and strengthen the shoulders, core, and spine. If you practice tabletop and plank pose, this workshop will also be helpful in fine-tuning your form as well as finding more aliveness, physical resilience, and strength.

It is helpful to have some yoga experience for this workshop but modifications for accessibility will be provided also. Register on our Workshops page!
