Great to see our study open at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust as well as several other sites across the UK. A huge thanks to all the hospital teams involved!

Researchers in Southampton are trialling a new app to help people with alcohol related liver disease.

The trial is run by Southampton Clinical Trials Unit and open to patients at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

Another Site Initiation Visit (SIV) held yesterday with the team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital who will soon be opening the study.

By setting personalised goals, providing support and motivation, and allowing people to self-monitor how much they drink, it’s hoped this new smartphone app can help reduce alcohol consumption for people with -related liver disease.

Amanda took part in a pilot study of the app and breathalyser at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Now, the AlcoChange , run by the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit, will test whether this digital intervention can reduce drinking and improve outcomes for people with alcohol-related liver disease.

Can a smartphone app help people with alcohol-related liver disease cut back on how much they drink?

The study will test whether a new app and breathalyser can change behaviours by providing 24/7 motivation and support.
