Hearing a recent RNZ interview with a so called professional saying ADHD is overdiagnosed and medicated in New Zealand and then describing an typical list of symptoms that basically crossed me off the list.... has been disturbing for many.... not just those that live with ADHD, but the professionals working with ADHD clients.
BUT thank goodness for the understanding ADHD community.... our tribe... the place where we finally fit in... this gives us some comfort.
We are not crazy, lazy, or dumb and careless. We are sensitive and overwhelm easily. We burn out, overthink, get stuck, we are quiet, loud, need routine, hate routine, we are so many things and we may even be successful in a career... or in trouble with the police.
It's complex... it's hard... and it's not a wealthy person's diagnosis.... it's getting diagnosed more for those with money because they are the ones that can afford it.....as an adult there is no funding for it. There are many who simple can't afford the thousands it costs to get help.
If you don't understand what living with this is like then count yourself as lucky.
ADHD is not a superpower... ADHD is not a trend... ADHD is vastly underdiagnosed... its exhausting....
Here is a thread from reddit that just shows the life-changing results of finally knowing what the 'problem' is.
The question was asked 'is it worth getting medicated at 30?'. There are over 1000 replies from people with similar stories....
