How are you? Really, how are you?

We keep hearing the phrase, "we're all in this together" and whilst this is true we will all be experiencing this pandemic in many different ways.

If you imagine this journey like we are all out at sea in our own individual boats, we all feel the choppy waves from the storm. However each of our boats are different, some are smaller than others, some may have holes in, some may have a sail. We will all be focusing on this storm through the 'lens' of our own struggles. Some days the storm may seem breezy and easy to navigate your boat, other days the boat may feel like it is sinking.

Imagine yourself in your boat, and when the storm picks up, what would your natural instinct be? Mine would be to hold on to my boat tightly in an attempt to make it steady. This is physically and mentally exerting, I’m struggling! If I try to focus my energy on letting go of trying to control the boat and focus on riding the waves, I might begin to feel more resilient - I may even find some joy along the journey. The reality is that in times of adversity we often try to control what we cannot, rather than focus on all the things we can control.

Ask yourself what do you have control over? We will help you start with some ideas here:

-Our mindset
-How often we say thank you
-How many negative articles we read
-The attention you give to your loved ones
-How honest we are
-How much exercise we get
-Our diet
-Letting ourselves feel our feelings

It is important for us to recognise that, although we are all 'in this together' we are all feeling differently and coping differently. Therefore it is even more important to have empathy with each other. Try to stay away from comparison, try to avoid any 'at least' comments to your fellow colleagues.

If I shared with you how rubbish I was feeling one day, a comment like, 'at least you don't have to work from home and home school your children' doesn't actually make me feel any better. Pointing out that others have it more difficult can trigger shame in those feeling the struggle. And triggering shame in people will make them less likely to open up to you again.

It is OK not to be OK, and we need to stay away from 'trumping' each others struggles. We can be there for each other whilst we are in this together, and recognise each other's distress as well as happiness.

We hope this analogy is helpful to you!

Today is !

We know how important sleep is to our mental health and wellbeing.

Lack of sleep can make us feel physically unwell as well as stressed and anxious, and scientists also believe that it contributes to heart disease and premature ageing.

This weekend (and beyond!) make an effort to get some good sleep.

Today is International Women's Day! 🌎

An equal world is an enabled world.

Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.

We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements.

Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.

Let's all be

Cynthia Nixon has been praised for fronting a powerful video about the immense pressures women face in society today.

The short film was produced for Girls. Girls. Girls. magazine and sees Cynthia recite a blog written by Camille Rainville in 2017 titled “Be a lady, they said”.

The blog addresses a litany of conflicting messages women are bombarded with every day, covering everything from the way women speak, dress and behave.

Have you seen it? What do you think?
