Kids Zone has been operational for 2+ years now and weβve been very fortunate to have had so many children come through our doors. For those of you who donβt know how it all started, it was a Grandmotherβs passion for the best possible care for her grandson.
That same grandson should be in school but last year we struggled to find what we were looking for in Ajman and even considered the village school in Scotland where Grannie lives, thereβs only 40 students in the entire school. We were thrilled at the thought of such small numbers but not so thrilled about sending him away.
Our extended family, my step-sister and her husband are educators; Mr. Steve (seen here giving an assessment) is from a family of 30 teachers. We all sat down together and have been working for the past 8 months on how to recreate the small village school within the UAE.
With a human scale of 1:10 we intend for every child studying with Elite Learners to receive the level of attention we seek for our own children. We have had to have very special partners in this exercise and we chose Pearson, the education specialist with over 150 years experience in writing the British curriculum.
The really exciting news is that Pearson has recently introduced iPrimary, the British Curriculum designed for international students. Studies have shown that children who are not speaking English as their first language struggle to keep pace with the standard British Curriculum, partly because they rely on memory in their early years and fail to grasp the building blocks of the language.
iPrimary, spends more time on understanding the concept and will bring international students alongside native English speakers in ability by the age of 10. This means there will be no additional English lessons required for GCSE or A Level or University entrance. Taking the route of ensuring the fundamentals are in place at the earliest age potentially saves an extra year later on.
To be part of the Elite Learners family we are accepting children between the ages of 4 and 8, spaces are limited and the reason we are not taking older children is that we will add classes as our own students progress through the stages. Those children that started in FS2 together will hopefully still be great friends in the same class as 18 year olds!
