Benefits of Olive oil soap
The olive tree was considered from ancient times sacred and blessed. It sprouted and thrived in every part of Greece, owing to the sunny climate of the country.
Knowing from tradition that the main raw material in the production of soap is the oleaginous stuff, Greeks came to use the most widespread and abundant vegetable essence in their country which was olive oil. In this way the pure soap from olive oil was born. From olive oil they created pure soap in honor of the Sun and human beauty.
Thus every Greek household manufactured its own homemade olive oil soap; to cleanse, to nourish, to moisturize, and to make your skin gentle.
From Greece, the production of this type of soap was extended to the whole Mediterranean area. The history of olive oil mirrors the history of human civilization.
Olive oil soap in English speaking countries is also call “Castile soap”
because of a similar olive oil based soap made in the Castile region of Spain.
The roots of soap manufacturing can be traced back to Ancient Greece in the Aegean island of Le**os. On this island, animal sacrifices took place in honor of the Gods.
The animals were incinerated and ashes from hardwoods were collected and mixed with the remainder of the sacrificed animals.
After a heavy rain, a yellow residue from the pile of ashes started rolling down the hill - where the Temple was found - and ended up in a nearby river. The local women while washing their clothes in the river observed that their clothes became cleaner when the waters of the river had a yellowish color.
History records that the poetess Sappho mentioned in her writings the action of this yellowish liquid. In order to honor her, the Greeks, invented the term "Saponification", which stems from the name of the poetess. This is also the chemical term which describes the chemical reaction of lye (sodium hydroxide) and water with fats or oils. That chemical reaction results in the conversion of fats or oils into Soap!

Why use olive oil in soap?
The nourishing benefits of using olive oil as a food are well known but what it is that it is beneficial to the skin.
Olive oil soap moisturizes the skin without interfering with the natural skin function. It attracts and holds moisture close to the skin. Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies, and is porous. Some commercial soaps are basically detergents, and full of chemicals which is rubbed onto the skin. No wonder there are so many people with skin problems.
Pure olive oil soap is gentle, cleanses the skin and moisturizes it leaving it feeling nourished.
Pure olive oil soap also has a lower pH than most commercial soaps making it suitable for people with very sensitive or dry skins.
The soap has different properties depending on the type of fat or oil used. Many are drying and irritate the skin. Pure olive oil soap not only gently cleans but it also moisturizes, nourishes and improves resilience of the skin.
We are using a traditional cold process method to make olive oil soap. This results in the natural glycerin and other beneficial properties being retained in the soap. Our Olive oil soap is then cured over a six week period before it is available to market. The process is labor intensive but produces a very superior product.
