A missing tooth can be restored in a number of ways. The video shows two of the most popular options, but let's highlight a third, more conservative choice:
* Dental Implant: A fantastic long-term solution, especially when the adjacent teeth are healthy and intact. This is the only option that replaces the tooth root, which helps preserve the jawbone. A titanium post is surgically placed into the bone, which then fuses with it to create a strong, durable foundation for a crown.
* Fixed Bridge: A non-removable prosthetic that replaces the missing tooth by attaching to the two teeth on either side. It's a good option if the adjacent teeth already require large fillings or crowns, as they must be prepped to support the bridge.
* Resin-Bonded (Maryland) Bridge: A more conservative alternative to a traditional bridge. This option is ideal when the adjacent teeth are healthy and there's no need to alter them significantly. The replacement tooth has "wings" on the back that are bonded to the palatal surface of the adjacent teeth with a strong resin cement. This is a minimally invasive procedure that preserves natural tooth structure.
Each option has its own pros and cons, and the best choice depends on the individual patient's oral health, bone density, age, and budget.
