Long fasting hours can impact saliva flow, breath freshness, and overall oral hygiene, making a consistent routine even more important.
Dr. Tarek ElKhawli shares key tips to stay on track this Holy Month:
"During Ramadan, long hours without food or water can reduce saliva flow and impact breath freshness. To maintain good oral health while fasting, I recommend following the ‘Total Care Trifecta’ — brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash consistently after Suhoor and Iftar.
Don't forget to clean your tongue daily to reduce bacteria that cause bad breath, and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing after consuming acidic foods like dates or juices. After brushing, avoid rinsing immediately with water; allowing fluoride to remain on the teeth helps strengthen enamel and prevent decay".
Small adjustments in routine can make a meaningful difference during fasting.
