- Dependency on written language
- Language development
- Social development
- Diagnostic criteria
- Presence of repetitive behaviors
- Age of onset
- Learning style

✨ It's important to remember that not all early readers are hyperlexic. ✨

Instead, hyperlexia is "viewed as a type of a precocious reading" and "is defined by a very specific pattern of compulsive interest and exceptional skills, and we would like to ‘preserve the concept of hyperlexia’ for this unique profile.” (Ostrolenk et al., 2017)

In order to do that, though, we need people to stop saying that hyperlexia just means early reading. Hyperlexia is SO much more than that.

Far too many children are living through crises that steal their childhoods.

With classrooms closed by conflict, bans on girls’ education and funding cuts, and with homes and families torn apart by violence, children around the world are carrying burdens far beyond their years.

We need continued collective efforts to create a safer tomorrow .
