أما عن ذروة المعروضات للبيع في مزاد سوذبيز في لندن شهر أبريل الحالي، هي القطعة رقم ٣١. لوحة نادرة للغاية للفنان العراقي الأسطوري محمود صبري (ولد ١٩٢٧ - توفي ٢٠١٢) "موت طفل" (١٩٦٢-١٩٦٣)(صورة. ١). جاء صبري إلى الاتحاد السوفياتي في خريف عام ١٩٦٠ ، "شيء لم أتوقع أن يحدث أبداً" ، كما ذكر صبري في رسالته إلى صديق ما ثم بقي في موسكو حتى ربيع عام ١٩٦٣. أمضى صبري سنوات صعبة للغاية ومثيرة للجدل والتساؤلات في الاتحاد السوفياتي، وكذلك كانت من سنينه الأكثر إنتاجية فنيَّاً. عاس في الاتحاد السوفياتي حيث رسم أفضل أعماله الفنية على الإطلاق ، بما في ذلك اللوحة المذكورة أعلاه. كان صبري يعمل على هذا التعبير التصويري لهذا الموضوع الذي "وحد على حد سواء، النضال من أجل الحرية وحزن الضحايا الأبرياء" ، كما قال صبري.
وتوضح رسوماته التحضيرية المتعددة (صورة. ٢) بحثه المكثف ومشاركته المستمرة في موضوع المآسي الإنسانية. وقد تم اختيار هذه اللوحة من قبل الفنان نفسه كتوضيح في المقال الوحيد الذي كتبه لمجلة سوفيتية في عام ١٩٦٣.

Image 2 and text: reposted from - And the pinnacle of the Sotheby’s April sale is lot 31, extremely rare work by legendary Iraqi artist Mahmoud Sabri (1927 - 2012) “The Death of a Child” (1962-63) (pic. 1). Sabri came to the USSR in the fall of 1960, “a thing I never expected to happen”, as Sabri stated in his letter to a friend. He remained in Moscow until the spring of 1963, spending very difficult, controversial years in the USSR, at the same time the most artistically productive and creative. It was in the USSR where he painted his best artworks ever, including the present painting. Sabri was working on this subject, the subject that “united both, struggle for freedom and innocents victims grief”, as Sabri said. His numerous preparatory sketches (pic. 2) demonstrate his extensive research and continued involvement with the subject of human tragedy. And this painting was selected by the artist himself as an illustration in the only article he wrote for a Soviet magazine in 1963.
