Eyelid cyst — harmless or something to worry about?

Most eyelid cysts are caused by a simple blockage of the oil glands, known as a chalazion. They can be uncomfortable and annoying, but in most cases, they are not dangerous and respond well to treatment.

However, if a cyst continues to grow, does not improve with treatment, changes in colour, or starts to bleed, it should not be ignored. In rare cases, what appears to be a cyst may need further evaluation to rule out a tumour. A biopsy may be required for proper diagnosis.
