This what “real” PRP is all about. From our friends at
The science matters.. If you are utilizing a “PRP” system that works from a blood draw volume of less than 25mL, you are not injecting PRP into your patient. It is not mathematically (or physically) possible to achieve the required 1 million platelets per microliter in a 5mL end volume from less than 25mL of whole blood. If providers are using a small volume systems, they are not giving patients what they came in for; a real regenerative that will result in tissue repair and , sufficient fibroblast proliferation to achieve the desired level in collagen filling of defects, angiogenesis to keep the tissue supplied evenly with nutrients and remove toxins, and localized stem cell proliferation through growth factor mediation. Systems that do not provide the necessary platelet volume to be considered “platelet rich” include Eclipse, Regenlabs, Arthrex ACP, Selphyll, DrPRP, YesPRP, and the infamous BD Tubes (which contain toxins, and are not meant for reintroduction of drawn biologics back into the patient - they are for in-vitro use only). If any healthcare provider are using any of those systems or similar, please don’t just accept what a medical rep tells you, realize platelets don’t just appear. We are using a medical grade system that can deliver, and most importantly - we do a platelet count to confirm.
