Art therapy offers a language beyond words. Through color, texture, symbol, and image, clients can express emotions that feel too overwhelming, complex, or unsafe to verbalize.

For children, and even adults who “don’t know what to say,” the artwork becomes the bridge, holding stories the body remembers before the mind can explain them.

Art therapy modalities gently support nonverbal communication, allowing feelings to surface, be witnessed, and gradually integrated 🎨

Welcome to ATIC, where each corner holds a special story 💕

Shy kids usually warm up -
anxious kids worry the whole time.

Here are a few gentle signs to notice:

✨ Your child avoids things they actually want to do
✨ Their tummy hurts right before school (but magically feels better at home)
✨ They ask “Are you sure?” about everything
✨ Big emotions appear after holding it together all day
✨ Sleep, learning, or confidence start to wobble

This doesn’t mean something is “wrong.”
It just means your child’s nervous system needs a bit of support.

And no, you don’t have to wait it out forever hoping it disappears on its own.

Early support helps children feel braver, calmer, and more confident.

You’re doing better than you think!

When was the last time your partner made a small bid for your attention and you didn’t catch it?

“Want to grab coffee?” “Look at this article.” “Should we watch something tonight?”

These aren’t just casual questions. They’re invitations to connect. And when we miss them or respond with a distracted “uh-huh” we’re turning away instead of turning toward.

In couples therapy, we see this pattern constantly: partners living parallel lives, not because they don’t care, but because they stopped recognizing each other’s bids.

The research is clear: couples who consistently respond to bids for connection report 67% higher relationship satisfaction. But in Dubai’s fast-paced environment, where career demands and expat life create additional stress, these moments often get lost.

The good news? This pattern is reversible. With the right therapeutic support, couples learn to:
→ Recognize subtle bids for attention
→ Respond with presence, not distraction
→ Rebuild daily rituals of connection

Unlike therapeutic art making, art therapy goes beyond relaxation. It helps translate what’s stored in the body and mind into something visible, tangible, and understood. The process allows emotions to move from being felt to being seen, a critical step toward insight and regulation.
As art therapists, we do not only encourage clients to make art, rather, to make meaning out of experiences, through art.

ATIC is the first clinic specializing in Art Psychotherapy in the UAE, our licensed art psychotherapists bring evidence-based creative and psychological approaches to every session. If you’re curious to explore how art therapy can support you, we’re here to connect.

In the early months of motherhood, it’s easy to feel that our worth depends on how much we do, how much of a ‘good mother’ we are, the feeds, the cleaning, the constant giving. But rest and recovery count just as much and arguably is vital.

Across the UK, around 1 in 10 women experience postnatal depression, and anxiety affects nearly 13% of new mothers. Many go through this without enough support feeling alone, unseen, or expected to manage everything on their own. This can feel even more isolating when living in another country away from extended family and support.

But you don’t have to do this alone. Motherhood was never meant to be a solo journey, it takes a village.

At ATIC, we’re part of that village. Our team provides safe, compassionate spaces for mothers to rest, reconnect, and receive support for their emotional wellbeing which in turn helps mum abd helps baby.

You’re not falling behind. You’re healing and you are doing the best you can, we’re here with you.

Does online therapy really work?

For many, getting to therapy isn’t easy.
Anxiety, mobility challenges, stigma, or a busy schedule can make leaving the house feel overwhelming.

Online therapy changes that.
UK research shows it’s just as effective as in-person sessions for anxiety, depression, and stress.

At ATIC, Dr. Sara Powell and Dr. Mariam El Halawani also conducted and published research during the pandemic on the effectiveness of online therapy in the Gulf region. Their findings demonstrated strong results even for trauma and digital art therapy a model that continues at ATIC today.

Online therapy offers comfort, privacy, and flexibility.

You don’t have to leave home to start feeling better.
Sometimes the screen isn’t a barrier, it’s a bridge.

Same level of care, expertise, and support… just in ATIC’s virtual space.

Creating a Safe Space for Online Therapy

Some considerations for online therapy set-up (from a therapist’s perspective):
• Setting up in a quiet, confidential space
• Preparing a range of art materials to support different emotional experiences (for art therapy sessions)
• Planning a mindful opening and closing for each session

Online therapy can be just as meaningful when approached with care and structure.
Our therapists at ATIC are here to connect whenever you feel ready.

ATIC’s Story

ATIC Psychological and Counselling Center originated out of Singapore, opening its doors in 2010. Our founders, Sara Powell and Theresa Ng, opened the center in order to educate, promote and provide Psychotherapy – with a specialization in Expressive Therapies – services to the community. Their shared passion for the Arts and therapeutic practices brought ATIC Psychological and Counselling Center to life.

We are a social impact community driven company built on the intention of expanding the social care sector, diversifying the services (Art and Expressive Therapies) currently available in the UAE. The drive to do so can be linked to Founder Sara Powell’s heavy connections and love for the region, having grown up in Dubai and having family – through marriage – from the UAE and Gulf.
