✨International Women’s Day✨
Today we honor the strength that doesn’t always shout, the resilience built in quiet moments, and the courage passed from one generation to the next. Supporting women means listening, uplifting, and creating spaces where every woman is seen, valued, and free to choose her own path. When women rise, the world moves forward.

🧠 1. Primitive reflexes at work

Newborns are born with reflexes (like rooting and grasping). When a baby nurses, these reflexes kick in, and their hands naturally reach, knead, or rest on the breast. They’re not being intentional — their nervous system is just doing its thing.

🍼 2. Boosting milk flow (yes, really)

Touching, squeezing, or kneading the breast can stimulate the release of oxytocin in the mother.
Oxytocin = the hormone that triggers the let-down reflex, helping milk flow more easily.
So in a way, the baby is helping themselves get milk.

❤️ 3. Bonding and emotional regulation

-Skin-to-skin contact helps babies feel safe. Touching the breast:
-Lowers stress hormones in the baby
-Regulates heart rate and breathing
-Strengthens emotional bonding

👶 4. Sensory learning and coordination

Babies explore the world through touch. While nursing, their hands are learning:
-Texture
-Pressure
-Cause and effect
This supports motor development and body awareness

🌍 5. Evolutionary design
From an evolutionary perspective, keeping hands close to the breast:
Maintains proximity to the food source
Reinforces bonding
Improves feeding success

Short answer: kind of—there’s truth there, but the number depends on how you measure it.

Producing breast milk is very energy-intensive. Most medical sources estimate that lactation uses about 450–500 extra calories per day. For many women, that works out to roughly 20–30% of their daily energy expenditure, especially in the early months.

So when people say “30% of a mother’s energy,” they’re usually pointing to the same idea:
🍼 the body is working hard—metabolically, hormonally, and physically.

“As a mom to a preemie, I’ve learned that progress doesn’t always look like milestones on a chart—it looks like small, steady wins 🤍

▶Things I watch for: feeding well, steady weight gain, alert moments, regular wet diapers, and gradual strength and interaction (all on their timeline).

▶I seek medical advice if I notice trouble breathing, poor feeding, very low energy, fewer wet diapers, fever, or if something just feels off.
Preemie parenting is part patience, part instinct, and a lot of grace. Always trust your gut—it matters.”

Natural birth is a physiological process supported by hormones, movement, and trust in your body. When a mother feels safe and supported, her body releases oxytocin — helping labor progress naturally and promoting bonding after birth.

✨ Freedom to move
✨ Minimal interventions
✨ Strong mind–body connection
✨ Immediate bonding with baby

Every birth is unique, but knowledge and support can help mothers feel confident and empowered in their choices.
