Job Title: Attending Veterinarian

Job Description
Overview:

The Attending Veterinarian will oversee the health and welfare of laboratory animals, ensuring compliance with international ethical standards in biomedical research. This role requires leadership in facility operations and collaboration with research teams. The position will be based in Abu Dhabi working in a Governmental Animal Research facility under the supervision of Cytomed Middle East.

Responsibilities:

Collaborating with researchers to develop and implement research protocols, ensuring they meet regulatory and ethical standards.

Providing regular training to facility staff on the ethical treatment and proper handling of animals.

Implementing and updating health programs for animals in accordance with international standards and institutional policies.

Commitment to ongoing professional development, including staying updated on the latest advances in animal welfare, experimental protocols, and research ethics.

In-depth knowledge of NRC 2011, ETS 123, and AAALAC standards, ensuring the welfare of rodents (mice, rats) used in research.

Qualifications:

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent from an internationally recognized institution.

Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the United Arab Emirates or eligibility for licensure.

Specialized training or certification in laboratory animal medicine (e.g., ACLAM certification or equivalent).

Proven experience in biomedical research, especially in animal models of diseases (cancer, immunology, protein engineering).

Skills:

Proficiency in anesthesia, surgery, and post-operative care of rodents, with expertise in performing precise research-related procedures (e.g., tissue collection, injections, surgical implantations).

Leadership skills to manage veterinary staff and oversee facility operations, ensuring SOPs and compliance protocols align with international guidelines.

Demonstrated ability to ensure regulatory compliance related to the use and care of laboratory animals.

Strong communication skills in English, with Arabic proficiency being an advantage for effective collaboration with diverse teams.

Job Title: Animal Caretaker

OVERVIEW:
The Animal Caretaker will be responsible for the daily care and welfare of research animals. This role requires attention to detail and compliance with facility protocols to maintain a safe and ethical environment. The position will be based in Abu Dhabi working in a Governmental Animal Research facility under the supervision of Cytomed Middle East.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Basic understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling, feeding, and maintaining animal housing.

· Knowledge of cleaning and disinfection protocols and the ability to implement environmental enrichment practices.

· Willingness to undergo ongoing training in line with international animal welfare standards.

· Ability to recognize signs of distress, illness, or abnormal behavior and report them to the veterinary team.

· Safely handle rodents (mice, rats) in a research or laboratory environment, following best practices for animal welfare.

· Familiarity with NRC 2011 and ETS 123 guidelines, particularly in maintaining a safe and clean environment for animals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· High school diploma or equivalent with formal qualifications in animal care.
Previous experience in a vivarium or laboratory animal facility is preferred.

SKILLS:
· Physical capability to lift and manage animal cages and work in controlled laboratory conditions.

· Knowledge of animal behavior and care best practices.

· Proficiency in English for clear communication with veterinary staff and researchers; Arabic is optional but preferred.
