Most people start by cutting foods out to try and control their IBS.

But that usually isn’t the real cause of the symptoms.

When foods are removed randomly, you never really know if they’ve made a difference. Before you know it, you’ve built up a long list of “intolerances”…

Your diet becomes more restricted, but the symptoms are still there.

Over time, overly restrictive diets can actually make gut function worse, and they can negatively impact your quality of life too.

Real IBS control comes from a science-led, systematic approach.

First we focus on stabilising symptoms by looking at things like:
• sleep
• movement
• nutrition foundations (not intolerances)
• mental health

Only then can you properly assess whether food intolerances are playing a role.

If you want to understand the process step-by-step, comment ‘guide’ below and I’ll send you my free guide.

Many people are understandably concerned when they have bowel symptoms that it may indicate bowel cancer and with rates under 50 increasing at around 3% per year - they have every right to be worried.

To be clear, there is no link between IBS and bowel cancer but it is vitally important that people get a clear diagnosis as symptoms alone could be related to anything.

The above symptoms are mostly not seen in IBS at all (apart from bowel habit changes). Some of these symptoms could be related to something ‘not as serious’ like having an unbalanced diet and getting anaemia or having haemorrhoids and getting blood in the stool. But the point is, we don’t know until you get an assessment with your doctor.

Let’s not take the risk - be safe.

Lemon water isn’t harming your gut 🍋

There’s no good scientific evidence that it improves gut function either, but it’s also not “damaging” your intestines.

If anything, acidic drinks are more relevant to your oral health 🦷
Your mouth is technically the first part of your digestive system.

Gut health on social media is full of half-truths and fear-based advice, and it’s exhausting trying to work out what’s real 😅

If you want evidence-based, practical guidance for managing IBS without cutting out everything you enjoy, I’ve put together a free guide to help you get started.

🚩🚩🚩Emerging research does not = grounds for healthcare advice.

😩 This is often a term you will see grifters using on social media and it makes their claims look real but actually the research isn’t there to make the recommendations that the are the selling you.

😩😩 Foods which are promoted to be good for the gut are not always good for people with IBS.

😩 This can lead to a lot frustration from people with IBS who are putting in a lot of effort to try and improve their IBS - only to worsen their symptoms.

🥳 The good news is that you can absolutely tolerate a lot of these foods which are good for the gut BUT after you first control your symptoms and then learn what your specific triggers are. Over time I find that clients not only do this but then tolerate more foods in general anyway when their gut is working well.

🙏 So please know that you are not doing anything wrong - you have IBS which means your gut simply doesn’t function well and so you need to tailor generic information.

✈️ How does your holiday impact your IBS?

😅 If truth be told, it’s not the holiday - it’s science. It is how your environment and food changes that will really give you the change in symptoms.
