معجزه گیاه خارمریم برای درمان کبد چرب
دانه خار مریم، داری تقریباً ۴ تا ۶ درصد سیلیمارین و عصاره این گیاه حاوی ۶۵–۸۰ درصد سیلیمارین و ۲۰ تا ۳۵ درصد اسید چرب می‌باشند. سیلیمارین این گیاه دارای هفت نوع فلاونولیگان (سیلیبین نوع A، سیلیبین نوع B، ایزوسلیبین نوع A، ایزوسلیبین نوع B، سیلیکریستین، ایزوسلیکریستین و سیلیدیانین) و یک تاکسیفولین (زردینه یا رنگ ساز زرد) می‌باشد.
خار مریم در موارد معتددی از نظیر بیماری‌های کبد و مقابله با سرطان استفاده می‌شود. همچنین برای امراض خاص به مقدار ۳۰ گرام روزانه برای فردی با بیماری دیابت نوع۲ تجویز می‌شده که نتایج بدست آمده از این آزمایش بسیار عالی و قابل توجه بوده و همچنین مقدار ۵۰ تا ۱۰۰ گرم در روز برای فردی با بیماری هپاتیت نیزتجویز شده است.
