, ✅ Safety overview
🔬 ✔️1. Because PRP uses your own blood (autologous), allergic or immune reactions are very rare.
The injected material comes from the patient’s own plasma — not from a donor — so the risk of infection or rejection is minimal.
This is one of the biggest advantages over other injectables.
💉✔️2. Reported side effects (usually mild and temporary):
Pain or swelling at the injection site (common for 1–3 days).
Temporary stiffness or warmth in the knee.
✅ Mild bruising.
These usually resolve within a few days with ice packs and rest.
⚠️ ✔️3. Serious complications are rare but possible if the procedure isn’t done properly:
Infection (if sterility is not maintained).
Joint inflammation (sterile synovitis).
Injury to nearby structures (if injection not done accurately).

NICE ( ) Interventional Procedure Guidance IPG637, 2018 — notes that PRP for knee osteoarthritis “appears to be safe” when performed under proper clinical governance and sterile technique.
Systematic Review ( , 2024) — found that most trials reported no major complications; only transient discomfort was common.
