The International Center for Professional Development (ICPD) recognizes its responsibility to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to healthcare and medical education in Armenia. In this spirit, ICPD is proud to announce the 3rd Professor Edgar Housepian Clinical Neuroscience Conference: Overview of Movement Disorders.

Professor Edgar Housepian was an internationally renowned neurosurgeon at New York’s Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. His life’s work was dedicated to serving patients, advancing his community, and supporting his homeland. He spearheaded the creation of multiple Continuous Medical Education programs—many of which remain active today—benefiting healthcare professionals across Armenia and Artsakh. His tireless commitment and open-minded approach played a key role in strengthening Armenia’s healthcare system.

Movement disorders encompass a broad group of neurological conditions, including parkinsonian syndromes, hyperkinetic disorders, tremor, and dystonia. Accurate recognition and differentiation of these conditions—combined with the use of modern diagnostic tools such as neuroimaging, genetics, and other biomarkers—are essential for proper diagnosis, as well as for pharmacological and surgical treatment. This symposium offers a unique opportunity to stay current with the latest knowledge, learn from leading experts from the United States, Europe and Armenia, exchange experiences, and find answers to key clinical questions.

The program will deliver focused, comprehensive education tailored to general neurologists, neurosurgeons, pediatric neurologists, family physicians, general practitioners, pediatricians, and rehabilitation specialists with a special interest in movement disorders.

As part of the Armenian Medical World Congress 2025, held on July 3-5 in Madrid, the International Center for Professional Development (ICPD) organized a Symposium on Continuing Medical Education, as a proud partner of AMWC 2025.

The event began with a warm welcome from Dr. Rafi Avitsian, Director of ICPD, and opened with a keynote talk on Armenian CME Regulations, delivered by:
👤 Dr. Ara Babloyan (Medical Congress Foundation)
👤 Dr. Alexander Bazarchyan (NIH Armenia)

🧩 The symposium was divided into two dynamic sessions. Session 1, moderated by Dr. Rafi Avitsian (ICPD), featured powerful presentations addressing national progress in continuing medical education:

Khachatur Margaryan (YSMU) – Continuous Medical Education at YSMU: Current Landscape and Future Directions
Hambardzum Simonyan (FAR) – CPD Programs for HCPs Working in Regions of Armenia: Challenges and Successes
Hmayak Sisakyan (YSMU Cardiovascular Program) – Bringing Innovation to Education in Cardiovascular Medicine in Armenia
Varta Babayan (Armenia Osteoporosis Association) – Osteoporosis in Armenia: Advances in Evaluation, Research, Care, and Outreach
Kostan Galumyan (Armenian Association of Radiologists) – Implementation of Radiology School for Continuous Medical Education

🧩 Session 2, moderated by Dr. Gevorg Yaghjyan (ICPD), highlighted innovation, collaboration, and capacity-building in Armenian healthcare education:

Shushan Isahakyan (NIH Armenia) – Advancing Continuing Education at the NIH: CME Progress Overview in Armenia
Rafi Avitsian (ICPD) – Advancing CME in Healthcare Through Innovation and Collaboration in Armenia and Beyond
Aline Herlopian (Yale Institute for Global Health) – Enhancing the Epilepsy Field in Armenia
Shushan Davtyan (Nursing and Therapists Excellence Center) – Advancing Nursing and Rehabilitation: Innovative Approaches to Healthcare Training
Jenia Ghazarian (Children’s Hospital Los Angeles) – Online Pediatric Education Network (OPEN)
Kristine Movsisian (Therapists for Armenia) – Using the ECHO Model to Strengthen Capacity in Armenian Rehabilitation

The symposium reflected the growing momentum in Armenia’s healthcare education sector, driven by both local dedication and international collaboration.

At the conclusion of the conference, a summary resolution outlining the key outcomes of the sessions was prepared and submitted to the AMWC2025 President Dr. Lilian Grigoryan.


Resolution of the International Center for Professional Development (ICPD) Session on Continuous Medical Education (CME) during AMWC 2025

Whereas, there is a recognized need for high-quality and affordable CME resources to support healthcare professionals;

Whereas, the diverse activities of various organizations are valuable and contribute significantly to advancing CME in Armenia;

Whereas, increased collaboration among these organizations is essential to presenting a unified and effective approach;

Whereas, regulatory bodies within Armenia play a critical role in setting directions and outlining future CME activities;

Be it resolved that this session\ calls for:

Strengthened collaboration between all organizations engaged in CME initiatives to enhance resource sharing and program effectiveness.
The development of unified strategies and frameworks, as guided by Armenia’s regulatory bodies
Continued dialogue and coordination among stakeholders to align efforts and optimize the impact of CME programs nationwide.

Մշակել միասնական ռազմավարություններ և շրջանակներ՝ Հայաստանի կարգավորող մարմինների ուղղորդմամբ։

Հարգելի մասնակից,

Տեղեկացնում ենք, որ գիտաժողովի գրանցումը փակ է, սակայն դեռ կարող եք գրանցվել հերթացուցակում։ Նախապես գրանցվածների չեղարկումների դեպքում հերթացուցակում գրանցված անձանց կուղարկվի համապատասխան հղում՝ մասնակցության հնարավորություն ստանալու համար։
Արդեն գրանցված մասնակիցները պետք է մուտք գործեն գիտաժողով՝ Հայաստանի ժամանակով սկսած ժամը 15:45-ից։
Ուշացած մասնակիցները հնարավոր է չկարողանան մուտք գործել, քանի որ տեղերը սահմանափակ են։
Հավելենք, որ գիտաժողովին շնորհվել է 3 ՇՄԶ կրեդիտ, որոնք կշնորհվեն միայն այն մասնակիցներին, ովքեր կապահովեն գիտաժողովի ընթացքում առնվազն 90% մասնակցություն։
