When we balance the Ida and the Pingala we make the prana flow in the main channel called the Sushumna so that gradually the mind is deconditioned and you open up to greater realities.
- Sri M
This concept is from yogic and Ayurvedic traditions, related to “Nadi Shodhana” or alternate nostril breathing.
The Ida and Pingala are subtle energy channels
Left vs. Right Nostril Breathing & Decision Making :
🌀 Left Nostril (Ida Nadi) Intuition and calm
• Associated with the right hemisphere of the brain.
• Traits: Calm, intuitive, creative, feminine energy (moon energy).
• Best for: Making emotional, intuitive, or relational decisions.
🔥 Right Nostril (Pingala Nadi) Logic and action
• Associated with the left hemisphere of the brain.
• Traits: Logical, analytical, action-oriented, masculine energy (sun energy).
Best for: Making rational, task-oriented, or high-
energy decisions.
✅. Practical Tip Before a Big Decision:
Block one nostril and exhale gently through the
other to feel which one is more open.
If you have a Balanced Breath (Both nostrils equally active you opened the Sushumna Nadi - neutral, spiritual channel.
How to Balance Ida and Pingala:
Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing):
This pranayama technique involves inhaling through one nostril while holding the other, then exhaling through the opposite nostril. This practice helps balance the flow of energy through both channels.
Hatha Yoga:
Asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), mudras (gestures), and bandhas (locks) in Hatha yoga can help clear blockages in Ida and Pingala, allowing prana (life force) to flow freely.
Mindfulness and Meditation:
Practices that encourage mindfulness and meditation can help calm the mind and promote balance within the body’s energy systems.
