A common cause of runners knee is the inability for the body to load up the posterior chain when weight bearing and landing. When you can finally get the client to load the muscles which haven't been loaded in a while....the magic shake happens...

Shin pain can be chronic and debilitating for athletes of any age. Quickly identifying the factors which are putting adverse stress on the lower leg is vital to enable graded return to training as soon as possible. .08 came to see me for a biomechanical analysis with bilateral shin pain after training and playing football.

He had been experiencing pain for a number of months and naturally had built up a tonne of tension as the body braced for impact so soft tissue work was initially needed and successfully removed much of the pain in the shirt term.

During the analysis of his running and functional movement we found he was collapsing at the the hip and ankle on landing resulting in undesirable forces and positions of the lower leg with little or no back up from the hip musculature to control the collapse/force absorption.

After just 6 weeks we had made significant progress in his movement patterns, the pain disappeared and we could set about working on improving his speed and elasticity.

Excellent work .08, a perfect client!

Arm drive affects the legs and vice versa...Levi had struggled with hip pain and bursitis for 2 years and a big part of the rehab process was getting active shoulder extension to sync up with the improving hip extension. Without the shoulders driving the rhythm or at least joining in with the rhythmic extension, it can be very difficult to alter the firing sequence of the hip extensors

There is of course more to the story...hip mobility, quad length and glute/hamstring strength but the improving the movement pattern, including the arms is what solidifies and improves the overall running technique.

Well done , hard work pays off!

Hyrox Utrecht was lots of fun! Meeting with best friends and old Rugby Colleagues from and laying down markers for Hyrox Vienna in just 10 weeks. The only way to make sure you are happy with the professional photos is to not take the photos too seriously! Or be beautiful... sadly that train has left the station for this old fella!

An excellent result from the past few months was meeting and helping him get back to (very fast) running after struggling for a year with a persistent calf issue. Not wanting to retire from a fledgling running career just yet he asked if I could be of service.

Starting with a biomechanical analysis with quickly identified the weak areas in terms of technique and using a series of tests figured out why his body was moving the way it was and why he was landing and propelling himself the way he was. Calf strength and indeed resilience was less of an issue, more that he had lost the ground reaction he once had and he was collapsing into a very dorsiflexed position on every step.

Cut to just a few months later and David is now running regularly again and the pace ever increasing. Well done to you David, for your efforts, your motivation and willingness to work to make real progress.
