The Intervention IQ project aimed to provide non–radiologists with accurate information on interventional radiology. For ongoing updates from the world of IR, please visit our partner page, www.facebook.com/cirsesociety
Interventional radiology (IR) is one of the fastest growing medical disciplines of recent decades, presenting minimally invasive treatments for some of society’s most prevalent conditions, in many cases, offering less risk, pain and recovery time than conventional surgery. IR has been an increasingly important sub-specialty of radiology, contributing to some of the most significant medical developments. Interventional Radiologists invented angioplasty and the first catheter-delivered stent, first used in the legs to save patients with vascular disease from amputation or other surgical procedures. These advancements pioneered the state-of-the-art treatments that are commonplace today.
