International (hybrid) Workshop with Suzanne Keys:
THE POLITICS AND ETHICS OF LOVE IN PERSON-CENTRED THERAPY TODAY

Rogers' relational conditions for therapeutic change and growth can be understood as different aspects of love. But what is the impact of the contexts that we live and work in on our capacity to love and be loved?

Globally there is a deep disconnection between humans and their ecosystem, inter-personally there is fear, mistrust, hatred and even 'cancelling' each other and intra-personally there are multiple distortions between our experiencing of our internal worlds and what we present to the world, particularly the virtual world. How can we co-create growthful environments for change, where the actualising and formative tendencies are facilitated, when our contexts are dehumanising, hostile and exploitative?

International Online Workshop with Susan Stephen:
CONGRUENT FUNCTIONING - Exploring the relevance of congruent functioning for our clients and ourselves

In this workshop we will discuss and explore congruent functioning, a proposed model of change that is a reframing of Rogers' concept of the fully functioning person. This model is based on empirical research that I carried out at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, Scotland) with data collected using the Strathclyde Inventory, a self-report measure of therapeutic outcome. We will consider if this model of change resonates with our experiences of client work (do we see our clients changing in this way?) and whether our clients describe change of this nature as meaningful for them. We will also reflect on the relevance of congruent functioning for ourselves as persons and as person-centred therapists. This workshop will offer a combination of presentations, discussion in large and smaller groups, and reflective/experiential exercises. The workshop will be held in English.
