🗣️ “The next thing we know, we're being loaded onto an RFDS plane. I thought, well, there's my anniversary gift... a flight to Adelaide.”

💕 While many celebrate with flowers and dinner this Valentine’s Day, Alice Springs couple Dion and Darryl are marking something far more profound – the flight that saved Dion’s life almost a year ago on their wedding anniversary.

For the couple, most Saturdays begin with a walking group, followed by coffee with friends.

But one morning, something felt very wrong. After rushing to hospital, Dion was told he was having a heart attack. 🏥

What began as a dream holiday to Uluru quickly turned into a nightmare for Eddie McKinney.

🌄 Originally from the US, exploring Australia's Red Centre with his wife Carmen and daughter Vienna had been on the bucket list. But a sudden bite and unmistakable fang marks, changed everything.

🐍 Eddie did what years of watching Australian documentaries on snake bites had taught him and was told, "We have to call the RFDS".

A big congratulations to our own Caitlyn Reid and Kylie Pellizzari, named finalists in the SA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards 2026. 🎉

🤰 Caitlyn, Community Midwife, supports rural and remote mums through pregnancy, from coordinating care and hospital bookings to flying into remote communities for face-to-face check-ups alongside our Primary Health Care Team.

✈️ Kylie, Clinical Education Manager (Aeromedical Emergency & Transport), leads the ongoing training and education that ensures our flight crews deliver exceptional care in the unique aeromedical environment.

We celebrate all the incredible nurses and midwives across the health system. These awards recognise the dedication, expertise and compassion they bring every day. 💙

This week, Australia’s biggest gravel race RADL GRVL saw Valtteri Bottas trade the Formula 1 cockpit for the bike alongside South Aussie star Tiffany Cromwell.

We were proud to again support the event with the RFDS team on hand to help keep riders safe. 🚑

Great news for Parachilna and Andamooka in outback SA! 🗞️

This week, newly upgraded airstrips were officially opened in both communities. 🛫

For RFDS patients and crews, safe and reliable airstrips are essential. They help us get in and out quickly when it matters most. ✈️

We acknowledge the local community groups who advocated and helped deliver these projects on the ground, and the Outback Communities Authority, SA Government and Australian Government for making these upgrades possible. It truly takes a team effort. 🤝

We had a fantastic time connecting with community in the Barossa yesterday for the Men’s Stage 1, with our RFDS Simulator making a surprise roadside appearance. 🚴‍♂️

You’ll also spot our teams at the TDU’s associated events Adelaide Epic and RADL GRVL this week, providing medical support to help keep riders safe and cared for. 🚑

A rare moment this week with both of our PC-24 aeromedical jets conducting emergency transfers to Melbourne for life-saving care.

More often, our jets operate in different parts of the country, using their speed and long-haul capability to deliver critical care when it’s needed most.
