This week, we welcomed Westpac as our new Banking Partner in supporting the delivery of critical healthcare services across SA/NT.

The partnership brings together two organisations with long and proud histories of serving Australians beyond our major cities.

In recognition of Westpac's commitment, two medically-equipped RFDS aircraft, including a new Pilatus PC-12 PRO, will bear the Westpac brand on its fuselage.

As Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle tracks across the NT, our RFDS crews and coordinators have been busy evacuating patients from already flood-hit Katherine to Darwin — supporting more than a dozen people in the past 20 hours. ✈️

We’re working closely with emergency services to keep communities safe, especially those needing urgent care.

We urge residents to stay safe and follow official local advice:

🗣️ “We’re essentially going to have an emergency department in a backpack.”

In a first for the NT, the RFDS is excited to announce a a Virtual Emergency Care trial on remote cattle stations across Central Australia and the Barkly, improving access to life-saving care in emergencies.

⛑️🎒 Rather than relying on a fixed clinic, the trial will deploy portable ‘virtual care backpacks’ and desktop telehealth solutions.

The telehealth tech combines video consultation, on-site diagnostic tools, satellite internet connectivity and essential medications that can be used in the homestead or out in the field, allowing on-call doctors to assess critically ill patients, hundreds of kilometres away, in real time.

The initiative builds on the success of Australia’s first Virtual Emergency Centre established by the RFDS at William Creek in outback South Australia. 🏥🖥️

📋 Stations in the Barkly and Central Australia regions will be invited to participate through an EOI process, with the trial to commence later this year.
