It’s always an honour and great fun to present but today I had the privilege of presenting alongside two wonderful (and very knowledgeable) colleagues, Dr Emilija Jensen and Dr Paula Stacey Thomas, about a holistic approach to understanding tongue ties and oral restrictions. We’ve had a lot of Christmas fun this week! This week we made reindeer biscuits to target a wide range of goals including:
🎄reading and following instructions
🎄 writing procedurals
🎄 trying new foods
🎄 learning new vocabulary
🎄 planning and organising

Today I spent the day at the Resilient Kids Conference listening to some great speakers including Maggie Dent & Dr Justin Coulson talk about building resilience, the science behind confident kids and how to support children and teenagers with anxiety

Happy Speech Pathology Week!

Did you know that 1 in 7 Australians will experience a communication difficulty at some stage in their life?

Any communication difficulty, mild or complex, may be a barrier for a person to interact with others and participate in everyday activities but with the right support every person with a communication difficulty can overcome these barriers.

From children to older Australians there are millions of Aussies who will need the support of a certified speech pathologist.

We had a lot of fun last term with feeding therapy, including making and trying some delicious Tim Tam racing cars, wafer airplanes and banana snowmen! Yum!

On Friday I attended a great workshop by Tammie and Jasmine from Sunny Spectrum Supports on ‘An Introduction to Neuro-Affirming Practice: An Autistic Professional and Lived-Experience Perspective’.

The workshop covered neurodiversity, the neurodiversity movement, the
medical model vs social model of disability
and "The do's and don't's" of Neuro-Affirming Practice

It’s been a busy start to the year at Let’s Talk! This week I had the honour (and a lot of fun!) giving two presentations about my favourite topics:

🗣 On Monday I presented with Tess Norris from Orofacial Myology Adelaide to the Adelaide airway interest group about non-surgical management of airway disorders & the latest research on the impact of airway function disorders on speech, language, learning and swallowing development

🗣On Wednesday I presented to a wonderful group of Speech Pathologists about tongue tie assessment and management, the latest research on the impact of tongue ties on feeding and speech functioning, paediatric feeding and oral development, as well as tongue thrust swallowing
