🌟 Setting Your NDIS Goals for 2026

A new year is the perfect time to think about what you want to achieve with your NDIS plan. Whether you're due for a plan review or just want to refocus on what matters most, setting clear goals can help you get the most out of your supports.

What Makes a Good NDIS Goal?
The best NDIS goals are SMART:
✔️ Specific - Clear and detailed about what you want to achieve
✔️ Measurable - You can track your progress
✔️ Achievable - Realistic with the right support
✔️ Relevant - Meaningful to you and your life
✔️ Time-bound - Has a timeframe to work toward

Examples of NDIS Goals for 2026:
Independence & Daily Living:

Learn to cook three healthy meals independently
Develop a morning routine I can manage on my own
Improve money management skills to budget weekly expenses

Social & Community:

Join a local sports club or community group
Make two new friends through social activities
Attend one community event per month

Employment & Education:

Complete a TAFE course in an area I'm interested in
Secure part-time employment with support
Develop interview and resume skills

Health & Wellbeing:

Establish a regular exercise routine three times per week
Learn strategies to manage anxiety in social situations
Improve sleep routine and quality

Living Arrangements:

Move into supported independent living
Learn skills needed to live more independently

💚 You Don't Need to "Use It or Lose It" 💚

One of the biggest NDIS myths? That you need to spend every dollar or lose funding at your plan review.

Let's set the record straight.

Your plan review focuses on:
✅ Your goals and progress
✅ What supports are working
✅ Changes in your needs
✅ What you want to achieve next

Not whether every dollar was spent.

There are valid reasons for underspending - maybe you found better value services, built new skills, or your circumstances changed. That's okay!

It's about meaningful outcomes, not ticking budget boxes.
Focus on supports that genuinely help you achieve your goals, not on spending for the sake of it.
