Understanding Hay Fever from a Naturopathic Perspective 🌿

Did you know that histamine isn’t the enemy? Our body actually needs a certain level of histamine. It plays a crucial role in digestion, immune response, and even keeping our nervous system balanced.

Problems arise when histamine levels get too high, or when our body struggles to break it down efficiently. That’s when common symptoms can flare up, including:

→ Sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny nose (hay fever)
→ Eczema or itchy skin
→ Hives or flushing
→ Headaches or migraines
→ Bloating or digestive discomfort

From a naturopathic standpoint, supporting your body’s natural histamine balance through diet, gut health, and lifestyle can help keep these symptoms in check, rather than just masking them with medication.

Your gut does more than digest food - it affects energy, mood, immunity, and even hormone balance.

Poor gut health has been linked to:
→ Low energy and poor nutrient absorption
→ Mood changes and brain fog
→ Increased risk of bowel cancer
→ Inflammation and weight gain

Support your gut naturally by:
→ Eating fibre-rich wholefoods (veggies, legumes, wholegrains)
→ Including pre- & probiotic foods (yoghurt, garlic, bananas)
→ Moving regularly
→ Staying hydrated
→ Limiting alcohol & processed meats

Your gut is the foundation of your wellbeing - take care of it, and it will take care of you. At Biophilia Health we're here to help you get on top of your gut health.

Even just 10 minutes outdoors can lower cortisol and boost serotonin 🌿

Such short bursts of time in natural environments have been shown to reduce circulating cortisol and activate the parasympathetic nervous system, supporting deeper physiological relaxation.

Research also suggests that spending time in green spaces can enhance serotonin production by increasing exposure to natural light, which helps regulate circadian rhythms and supports healthy neurotransmitter synthesis. Together, these effects can elevate mood, reduce stress reactivity, and sharpen cognitive performance.

In a fast-paced world, connecting with nature doesn’t have to be complicated. It might look like a quick walk outside, sitting beneath a tree, caring for your plants, or simply stepping away from your screen to take in the sky and surrounding sounds. Even brief, intentional moments outdoors can offer meaningful benefits.

When was your last nature break + what will yours look like today?

Working on your health is like giving your body a deep spring clean - clearing away what no longer serves you to make space for renewal.

At first, it feels exciting, but halfway through, suddenly there are piles everywhere: donate, throw out, put back… total overwhelm.

The same thing happens when we start working on the root cause of your health:
→ Symptoms rise to the surface
→ Detox pathways switch on
→ It can feel like you’re going backwards

But here’s the truth: closing the cupboard door doesn’t make the mess disappear. The longer it sits, the harder it is to clear.

Healing isn’t linear. It’s often messy, uncomfortable, and overwhelming. Yet, just like the fresh, spacious feeling after a true spring clean, your body will thank you for doing the work.

And you don’t have to do it alone. With the right support, you’ll know where to begin, what to release, and how to move forward with clarity.

You deserve your own spring clean - and we’re here to guide you every step of the way 🌺

Our Story

Biophilia Health is founded by partners and Naturopaths, Lachlan and Connie. They met at University, where they connected through their passion for all things health and wellness. Together, their mission is to connect with, empower and enrich the lives of others. Both Lachlan and Connie had unique life experiences that led them to study Naturopathy.

Growing up, Connie saw loved ones go through illness and witnessed first-hand the devastation it has on the individual as well as their family. She wanted to help but didn’t know how. In search for the answers to good health, at age 21 she began to see a Naturopath to learn more about it and its health benefits. She was so impressed by Naturopathic philosophies and practices, which left her feeling great both physically and mentally, that she decided to study a degree in Naturopathy. Six years of intensive study later, learning about the multitude of factors that influence health, Connie is now ready to use this information to help others achieve their health goals. Lachlan’s journey started when he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer at just 20 years old. Immediately, he took an integrated approach of both orthodox and complimentary medicine. He underwent many invasive treatments but was also fortunate enough to receive some of the best and newest therapies in lung cancer. He complimented this with an incredible attitude of positivity, gratitude and resilience as well as putting enormous effort into his diet and lifestyle. Lachlan used complimentary medicine to support his body during the invasive treatments, as well as aiding his recovery and improving vitality. He found that complimentary medicine helped him so much that he left his electrical apprenticeship to enrol at University to study to become a Naturopath. Now, almost 8 years since his diagnosis, Lachlan is more determined than ever to help others on their health journey.
