TOKYO DRIFT

Today I decided it was high time to mow the lawn with my Protea cylinder mower; after all it has been a month. Oh, little did I know what awaited me on the lawn! My mower was like, "I'mma drift like I'm in Tokyo!"
So im trying to wrangle the wild beast that is my lawn, yet no matter how hard I tried the mower was drifting all over the place and there wasn’t a straight stripe to be had.
I know some of you lawn aficionados have been through this too, right? It's like the thatch has thought bu**er it, Tokyo Drift for you!

So this got me thinking on how to restore order to the lawn chaos and make it the last few weeks before its time for the full reno!
We can either wait and do it shock and awe like most of us will probably do or you can however take a tactical approach.

TACTICAL APPROACH: Groom that unruly lawn and bring out the dethatcher cartridge! This will help thin the lawn out and make it a whole lot easier come spring as well as easier on the mowing and less of the 80s p**n look.
If you’re one to rely on the capacity of your green bins to discard your thatch or simply keen to lighten the load come Spring, this will pay off dividends.

SHOCK & AWE: If you prefer the bold route, let the thatch have its fun for now (with the odd bit of help from stray galahs). When spring hits, unleash the full fury of scalp, scarify, core, top-dress etc.
There’s nothing wrong with either approach. Shock and awe is what nearly all of us do. Sadly though through speaking with many of you, the next year reno many of us make concessions or get someone else to do it for us.
By staging things, it's less overwhelming and no need to do it all in one fell swoop.

In relation to the Plant Doctor 15% discount using the code SAWMI. Sadly Plant Doctor advises this will reduce to 10% as of midnight 12/11/22.

I get asked all the time about Battery Scarifiers and those who have been following my posts, you’d know I’ve had some battery units that I've been trialing. I had one recently purchased from me in exchange for constructive criticism and feedback so I could combine it with my trials.

From the customer experience, it was rather positive as they got more thatch out than expected and it did the job. (photos attached)

From all of this, I observed a couple of things which I'll summarise.
The battery units require a modest size lawn (typically under 100sq) and patience.
The battery unit could do 2 passes on a charge however to do a deep scarify it required 8 runs, therefore 4 recharges with a 90-120 minute charge time.

This reinforced some things for me:
An Electric unit doesn't compare to a petrol unit
A Battery unit doesn't compare to a corded unit.

I do note however people are happy with whichever unit they have when there is no comparison.

Ultimately the choice will come down to convenience vs power.

At SAWMI we're dedicated to bang for your buck.

For now, battery units are on the back burner and I know some don't want a cord (which is why I got Predator on board). I just don't think battery is there as yet to reasonably achieve a full deep scarify.
