Hi there RED Community.

You and others may be feeling anxious and sad owing to recent events, and the reporting of them.

While we can’t change things that have happened, we can change how we and others respond to them by practicing some Psychological First Aid and focus on reducing the feeling of being overwhelmed, strengthening our supports, and connecting to reliable information and services, and choosing what we see and share online and in conversations. Here are three ways to help ourselves and each other:

1. Reduce unwanted exposure. Avoid sharing graphic footage and supporting & reposting fear-mongering and unkind words etc. Stop following people who spread harmful material and words.

2. Slow down information. Early information is often incomplete or posted by people who are repeating rumours and unverified stories. Prioritise truth from official sources and question/reject gossip.

3. Avoid group blame. Condemning all violence and other harmful behaviours doesn’t require blaming specific people/cultures/religions and other groups. This can lead to bullying, racism and other unkind and unfair activities.

If you, or anyone you care about, requires additional support at any time, we advise you to keep this list handy and reach out to the following organisations:

Lifeline: 13 11 14 or text 0477 131 114 (lifeline.org.au)
Beyond Blue: 1300 224 636 (beyondblue.org.au)
Su***de Call Back Service: 1300 659 467 (suicidecallbackservice.org.au)
13YARN (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people): 13 92 76 (13yarn.org.au)
Kids Helpline (ages 5-25): 1800 551 800 (kidshelpline.com.au)
Men's Line Australia: 1300 789 978 (mensline.org.au)

In an immediate crisis or emergency, ALWAYS call 000.

Survey for South Aussie Carers, pass it along.

We’d like to hear from carers of children and young people with disability, and carers who are living with disability.

DCP is currently developing a new Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP). We would like your help in thinking about what actions we could take to improve access and inclusion for our children and young people in care, their carers and families, and our staff living with disability.

We invite you to provide your thoughts in the short survey below: https://bit.ly/49Sd4Ck

Closes Friday 19 December.

What an achievement - England’s Turner Art Prize is da bomb!! Congratulations Nnena and we hope that the rest of the art world sits up learns that fostering representation and inclusion brings fresh, exciting artistic expressions!

The Turner Prize, England’s most high-profile art award, has named Nnena Kalu as its 2025 winner. She will take home Ā£25,000 (about $33,300), while the three other shortlisted artists will receive Ā£10,000 ($13,000).

Kalu is officially the first-ever learning-disabled artist to win the award, which has in past years gone to artists such as Anish Kapoor, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Lubaina Himid. She is also one of the few Black artists ever to have received the prize.

Born in Glasgow in 1966 to Nigerian parents, Kalu is known for sculptures resembling cocoon-like forms that she strews with videotape, cellophane, and other unconventional materials. Since 1999, Kalu, who is autistic and is largely unable to speak words, has worked with the London-based nonprofit ActionSpace to create her art. Only recently, however, has her work begun to appear in commercial settings, with the London gallery Arcadia Missa taking her on last year.

December 3rd is the United Nations' (UN's) *International Day of People with Disability* (IDPwD) and this year, the theme for IDPwD 2025 is *Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress*.

The theme means we all need to work together to make society fairer and respect the rights of people with disability. International Day of People with Disability - Australia suggests we need to:

- Take away barriers that stop people with disability from joining in.
- Make sure people with disability have the same chances as others.
- Have health care and good education that everyone can use.
- Include people with disability in all parts of life.
- We also need to understand the problems people with disability face. This includes being poor, not being able to find a job, and being treated unfairly.

Share your suggestions for ways for Australian society to become fairer and more respectful of the rights of people with disability.

A bittersweet time for the RED Community as one of our amazing, practical and multi-talented Founders, Georgia, moves onwards to write the next chapter in her life’s story.

Having pursued her dream and put her heart into Hair Lounge at CBR, building its groundbreaking offer of talented, stylish and neuroaffirming hairdressing, Georgia’s health (it appears) didn’t get the memo šŸ˜ž.

Demonstrating the ingenuity and resilience of entrepreneurs, Georgia has made some awfully tough decisions and ā€œpassed the batonā€ to Kyra and Sorcha (who is also a valued member of the Rapid Enterprise Development - RED community šŸ™‚).

Our congratulations go to Georgia, her family and the Salon’s team. Your friends at RED are here for you - just sing out ā¤ļø

šŸ’œA fond farewell & a happy hello!šŸ’œ

We are so excited to be welcoming Kyra into the Hair Lounge family. Kyra comes with years of hairdressing experience, and we can't wait to see her skills in action on the salon floor!

As we all know, Georgia has been unwell for a while, and it is now time for her to rest & find her new normal. Hair Lounge would not be the place it is without you - our wonderful clients, and it has been an amazing journey these past 2 years. šŸ’œ

Sorcha will still be at Hair Lounge - so a familiar face will always be around! ā˜ŗļø

We can't wait to see where this next journey takes us all!
