Meaningful art and therapeutic, all these years later impacting with its presence

Honouring the very first artwork - created in 2008 in GATS Private Rehab - in the 2000's period. The rehab owner and amazing therapist Robert Mittiga, whose birthday it is today, got us to do mandalas and connect with something deeper, reconnecting me with my creativity. This piece dumped my whole practice on it's head as I navigated group work for the first time, my first Art Therapy, nothing made sense except in hindsight; now I take others through it. Another incredible piece, this is "Untitled" soft pastel 2008

Remembering Robert (d. 2023) and Bill Shiels (d. 2012) both having birthdays today, both helped me get back to myself. Thankyou 🙏🏼

During which is every September, I would like to honour the many, many men and women I've personally known who lost their lives to addiction or illnesses, misadventure or other as a direct result. However--- we do recover.

What this means is that when someone goes deep into sobriety and the inner work that involves, consistent healing ripples outwards affecting their families, communities and social networks with every choice that is made for recovery.

Many families I've known of the ones they've lost have gone on to heal their own part; addiction is a "family disease" and dysfunction is rife where there's a singular "designated patient".

But miracles abound when someone goes in for the big journey, the journey that continues... it is not for ourselves alone.
