⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐One of the biggest drivers of stress is the inability to say "No."

Healthy boundaries are incredible as they protect your time, energy, and capacity.

Saying 'no' to an extra commitment (especially this time of year) is saying 'yes' to your mental health. Start small today and decline a non-essential task and feel the immediate reduction in your stress load. ✌

At the ❤ of our practice is the value of PATIENCE

In our fast-paced world, we often feel like we're failing if we can't instantly fix a problem or immediately feel better. But true Patience isn't about passively enduring a long line or waiting for a delivery. It's an active skill of emotional regulation.

For your mental health journey, embracing patience means:

🌼Recognizing that deep-seated change takes time and repetition. We don't rush the process and instead respect the pace of your growth.

🌼 It's the ability to feel discomfort, frustration, or uncertainty and choosing calmness (or at least non-reactivity) rather than demanding an immediate fix. It's about sitting with the feeling, not fighting it.

🌼Patience is rooted in giving yourself grace. You wouldn't expect a broken bone to heal overnight, so extend that same gentle understanding to your mind and heart.

We provide the tools to cultivate this inner stillness, helping you transform "waiting" into calm acceptance so you can navigate life's inevitable challenges with strength and composure.

Are you IN TUNE with your body's alarm system - fight or flight.

When you feel overwhelmed, your body's ancient survival system kicks in, releasing cortisol and adrenaline. This is your fight or flight. It's great for escaping danger, but not so great when you’re just reading a demanding email for example.

We like to teach practical, evidence-based techniques to interrupt this cycle and signal safety to your nervous system.

Get in touch if you feel this would be valuable for you. We offer a 15-min Free Clarity Call which will help identify where you are at with your bodies alarm system and that could be a great place to start. 😊

Not all stress is bad! What a relief! There’s a positive form called eustress. This is the motivating, short-term excitement you feel before a performance, a deadline, or a first date. Eustress is invigorating; it sharpens your focus and encourages growth. The goal isn't to eliminate all pressure, but to manage chronic stress so you can enjoy the motivating push of eustress!

How are you going with this?

November marks International Stress Awareness Week, and at Okay Counselling, we want to remind you that stress is a normal human response and it's not a personal failing.

It is when it becomes chronic that it drains your energy and mental clarity. This month, let’s normalize the conversation around stress and acknowledge that reaching out for support is the most effective way to start managing it before it becomes chronic. We are here to help you move from surviving to thriving.

Stress isn't all the same. Understanding the type you're experiencing is the first step toward managing it.

👉Acute Stress: The body's immediate, short-term reaction (e.g., a near miss while driving). It passes quickly.

👉Episodic Acute Stress: Experiencing acute stress frequently—always rushing, always worried, often leading to headaches or tension.

👉Chronic Stress: Persistent stress that wears down your physical and mental health (e.g., an unhappy job, financial strain). This is the one we need to address strategically.

Which one are you navigating right now? Knowing the distinction can change your approach.

Here at Okay Counselling, we believe humility is a big part of providing a service of expertise. You are the expert in your own life and we are here to support that.

Our role as counsellors isn't to lecture or dictate answers. Our humility ensures that we approach every session with genuine curiosity, deep respect, and open minds. We understand that your history, your feelings, and your perspective hold the most vital information.

What Humility Means for You:
💬Non-Judgmental Space: We step away from assumptions and preconceived notions, offering you a truly safe and neutral space to explore difficult truths.

👥Collaborative Approach: We work with you, not on you. Our therapeutic process is a partnership, ensuring the goals we set and the strategies we use are meaningful and relevant to your unique journey.

😊Continuous Learning: We remain committed to listening, learning, and adapting our approach because we know there is always more to understand about the human experience.

If you are looking for a counselling relationship built on mutual respect and where your voice is truly valued, know that the humility of our practice is here to support your growth.

The relationship between poor sleep and anxiety is a vicious cycle. When you're tired, your mind overreacts to minor stressors, amplifying worry. Then, that heightened worry prevents you from falling asleep, leading to more fatigue the next day. Breaking this cycle is essential. We use strategies to target the thoughts and behaviors that prevent restful sleep, helping you regain control over your nights and your days. If we can support, let us know.

Do you find yourself scrolling social media or watching stressful news right before bed? That blue light and emotional stimulation signal danger to your brain, making it impossible to switch off.

💫💤Implement a 30-minute Wind-Down Routine. Put the phone away, try gentle stretching, read a physical book, or practice a few minutes of mindful breathing. It’s a simple signal to your brain that it’s safe to rest, paving the way for deeper, restorative sleep.

Want a simple, powerful tool for better mental health? It starts with sleep. 💤

Quality sleep is the foundation for emotional regulation. Think of it as your brain's reset button. When you’re well-rested, you have more bandwidth to handle daily stress, manage emotional triggers, and think clearly. Don't view sleep as a luxury; view it as non-negotiable mental health maintenance.

Loneliness is more than just being alone; it's a feeling of disconnection that impacts your physical and mental health. Remember that genuine connection is a core human need.

💫TIP:
Think about what you genuinely enjoy doing. Were you once part of a book club, a sports team, or an art class? Re-engaging with hobbies can be a great way to meet like-minded people. This isn’t about forcing social interaction but about finding genuine enjoyment, which can naturally lead to new connections.

We are here if you need to talk. We offer a free 15 min Clarity Call so head to our website and book one in as this can help direct you to a more connected path forward as well.

For additional tips on overcoming loneliness you can also check out the blog on our website.

We often treat our mental health and physical health as separate entities, but they are intricately woven together.

I like to take a holistic approach, understanding that factors like chronic illness, gut health, and lifestyle directly impact your emotional well-being. True healing involves addressing your whole self—mind, body, and the life circumstances that shape your experience.
... And yes I do find that a joyful heart can positively impact us mentally and physically. Have you experienced this?
